Letrozole straight after d&c

Letrozole straight after d&c

Hi, I miscarried at 8 weeks pregnant and had the d&c 3weeks 4days ago. Just before i found out i was pregnant my doctor had prescribed me letrozole femara which I didnt end up needing to take. Unfortunately, because I was so overwhelmed with grief over the miscarriage and could not think rationally, I decided to take the letrozole counting the bleeding from the d&c as a period in which i used from day 2 throught to day 6. As mentioned, it has now been 3 weeks 4days since the d&c and today I had a positive pregnancy test. Is it possible that I am pregnant so soon after the d&c because of the letrozole? or is it just that my hcg levels have not completely dropped yet? Now that I am starting to mentally recover from the miscarriage I am so scared that I may have done some damage to my reproductive system by taking that letrozole whilst my hcg levels were still so high (around 70,000). Please help me, I dont know what to do. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for over 2 years and I am afraid that i may have now ruined all my chances.

Hi!
It is difficult to say whether or not this is a new pregnancy, but I rather suspect that it is! The way to find out is to have quantitative beta HCG levels done 48 hours apart and compare the two.  If it is a new pregnancy, the level should approximately double.  If it is left over from the previous pregnancy the level will probably fall.
If you are pregnant again, there is no need to worry about anything other than the usual worries. If you're not pregnant again, you haven't done any permanent harm, but it would be a good idea to wait until all the pregnancy hormone clears your system so that you can start fresh.
By the way, I always like to look at the positive side of the miscarriage--you now know that you CAN get pregnant!  If it can happen once, it can happen again.  Maybe it already has!
Good luck!
