Lupron and endometrioma

Hi there,

I was wondering if Lupron is effective in shrinking endomtriomas and how long does it take?

Thanks!

Dear duff0015-

Most often, lupron does not shrink endometriomas. Sometimes it does. There are other potential benefits to lupron. It relieves endometriosis pain and pelvic pain. There are some who believe that it renders the likelihood of IVF more successful in patients with endometriosis who are doing IVF. On the negative side, the beneficial effects of lupron are only temporary while taking the lupron, and one cannot take lupron for a prolonged time due to concerns about osteoporosis. Hot flushes on lupron are uncomfortable. While on lupron, you will not ovulate and therefore if you want to get pregnant you will not be able to do so while on lupron. It is a good idea to have a conversation with your doctor about the reasons for choosing lupron, and the expectations with lupron treatment.

Hi there,

Thanks for the response.  Is the only way to get rid of an endometrioma through surgery?  I have a 3cm endometrioma that has been there for 6 months (not growing).
