My period not yet started after delivery

My period not yet started after delivery

Hi Doctor,

I have a baby of 14 months. After my delivery, I had a period once in the 3rd month and in the 7th month after the delivery. After that it didn't come. I have a hypothyroid problem. I am regularly taking the medicine for that. My TSH level was normal when I checked it 4 months back. My age is 32, weight is 145 lbs and height is 5 feet 3 inch. My baby is still on the breast milk apart from the other table food. She doesn't drink the whole milk. Is it because of that my periods are getting delayed?  how to stop feeding baby in night? Do I need to take the iron folic acid tablet.

Hi!
If your thyroid level is normal, I am going to bet that you are not having periods because of nursing. If this is the case, then you don't need to worry that you are not having periods UNLESS you want to conceive again.

In this type of situation, the uterine lining stays very thin due to low estrogen levels, and you do not accumulate a lot of tissue inside, so there is no period, and no need for a period.

If you want another child, you may need to jump start your cycles with something like clomid or femara (medicines that stimulate ovulation).  If you just want to have a period for reassurance that you are NOT pregnant again, you could take oral contraceptives.  If and when you stop nursing, you will probably resume regular cycles within a few weeks to months on your own, but I would not recommend stopping just for that reason.

Congratulations on your little one!

Hope this is helpful!

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for the information.
I want to conceive again soon. Right now my estrogen level is low so does it mean that I am not ovuluting at all. Is it possible to ovulate again without stopping the breastfeeding or reducing the breast feeding count. I have seen that many women get their regular periods during breastfeeding.

After taking the clomid, I will get the periods. So can I plan to conceive in the very next month? What is the recommended dosage of clomid and for how many days?

Thanks for advance.
