Hi Sam!
Don't be sad and scared!  There is SOOO much to look forward to in life!  Periods are awful, but having a uterus (the organ that causes those darn things) gives women the ability to have babies which more than makes up for all the icky periods in the long run.
It is very normal to have a period at your age.  It is also very normal to have irregular periods at your age.  The white discharge that you are noticing may be what is known as "physiologic discharge" which means normal discharge.  It is caused by hormones and changes with your cycle. Natural family planning methods use the discharge (mucous) to determine when a women is fertile and can get pregnant.

If you were my patient,  I would advise you to talk with your mom or another older woman or girl who has her period and who can help you through this transition.  It sure helps to have someone to talk to about this stuff, so seek someone out!

Good luck!

Hi Hon,

at 13 there is a lot happening in your life.  Why are so sad and scared?

Is there any adult you can talk to, a parent, a teacher, or a friend's mother?

You can tell us here what's going on, if it will help.
