Pregnancy after vasectomy

by Paula N, May 24, 2007 12:00AM
My husband had a vasectomy over seven years ago.  I am 41 years old and am a week overdue for my period.  I have also been experiencing frequent urination.  I took two home pregnance tests with both results being negative.  What is the likelihood that I'm pregnant?  Could these two symptoms indicate something else I should follow up or should they be considered independently?

Thank you,

Paula

Dear Paula

You can follow up with a blood pregancy test, but home pregnancy tests are very accurrate, so that a negative home pregnancy test (particularly after a vasectomy) is very reliable. I highly doubt you are pregnant. The frequent urination and late period are most likely unrelated. It is not that unusual to miss a period from time to time., or to be late. If this persists, I would recommend seeing your ObGyn.

Just a late period.  Highly unlikely.

My husband had a vasectomy when I was 8 months pregnant with our daughter (pregnancy number4) I fell pregnant 4 years later and had another baby boy now 8 years post vasectomy we are pregnant with number 6 so vasectomy's certainly are NOT 100% to be honest with you I would be taking the pill or using other protection during ovulation just in case. Fortunately for us we really wanted another baby. Take a look at my other posts if you like.
Take care and keep us posted
