Hi Doctor, I am 21 years old and I am trying to get pregnant. Can you tell me what I can do to try to conceive faster and ensure a heathy pregnancy because I also suffer from acid reflux and abdominal pains? I really want to becomes mother can you help me?
Hi! If you were my patient, I would advise you to try to get fit and be at least close to your ideal body weight. Also, quit any bad habits such as smoking or drinking alcohol if you have any bad habits. Make sure you don't have any sexually transmitted infections too. Begin a supplement or prenatal vitamin with at least 400mcg of folic acid Your best chance for conception is if you have intercourse every day or every other day during your fertile time, or even your entire cycle (minus your period). As far as abdominal pains, it would be prudent to have that diagnosed before becoming pregnant. Acid reflux will very likely get worse during pregnancy, but is treatable with over the counter medications. There are LOTs of other things to do, and you may wish to have a consultation with a doctor to personalize the recommendations to your own situation. Most doctors will schedule pre-conceptual counseling visits. It would be a good chance to choose your OB doctor too. Good luck! Dr B
