Recurring Missed Miscarriage

I am 39 years old and within the past year I have had two missed miscarriages at 6 weeks, basically no fetal heartbeat at u/s. What are the chances that I will be able to conceive a healthy child? What tests should I be doing and is there any treatment. This experience is very depressing.

I know how you feel and what your going through. I'm 27 years old and I've had 3 mc's this year!!! I can not keep them past 6 weeks. I'm assuming a LP defect, progesterone or something. I've had some blood test done and all came back normal and I'm ovulating! My husband and I have an appt. to see an RE on Nov.13. I've never been to an RE. So I'm scared and hopeful at the same time. I thought RE are for woman that couldn't conceive, I can conceive I just can't hold on to them. My OB was thinking of Clomid but I wanted to give it one more shot and I guess now going to an RE for Clomid may help with progestrone shots or something. I know I'm rambling, and am truly sorry.

Dear Charlie68.

I would recommend seeing an infertility specialist/REI doctor, given that the biological clock is ticking somewhat. There are some tests that can/should be done. Having said that, they virtually always come back normal, but at age 39 we don't want to miss anything. The tests include chromosome testing of you and your partner, an X-ray or saline ultrasound evaluation of your uterus, and some other blood tests for certain antibodies that may prevent adequate implantation.

Try not to get too discouraged, overall the chances of getting pregnant successfully even after two miscarriages is probably more than 70%. The only thing I worry about a little bit is your age.

Sorry for the miscarriages. I hope things work out!

I had two missed miscarraiges, same thing went to ultrasound and no heartbeat at 7 weeks.  With my 3rd pregnancy I was put on prometrium and I am happy to say I gave birth to a beautiful 10 pound baby girl. My progestrone level was low when I was tested in the first weeks of pregnancy and my dr put me on the prometrium and they went up to normal. My dr said this was most likely was causing me to miscarry, without enough progesterone the baby can not properly attach to the utern wall. I hope this helps. I am now pregnant again and have been taking prometrium for 2 weeks now ( I am 5 weeks) and so far so good. we go for an ultrasound in 2 weeks so we are keeping our fingers crossed. Good luck to you all.

Did your RE say that anything can be done so you can carry a baby?  I am wondering if that is what I have b/c they found a clot on my placenta.

I have been tested for reoccuring m/c and they found I have a clotting disorder that creates microscopic clots in the placenta, it is quit common actually.
The test is called a "clotting study"
Hope this helps, Good luck girls

I just had my second miscarriage this year last week.  I too was wondering what is going on and if I will ever get pregnant.  The first was a chemical one and this last m/c we saw the heartbeat twice and then it disappeared.  I am too nervous to try again!

I too have experienced missed miscarriages. I had 2 back in 2001. Both times there was no heartbeat or anything showing on ultrasound and I had to have a d&c. Before that I had a natural m/c. I had every test imaginable: chromosone analysis, HSG, hormone checks - everything you could think of. We discovered I have a unicornuate uterus but supposedly that had nothing to do with the m/c. The next time I became pregnant, Nov 2005, was successful! In August of last year I delivered a very healthy baby boy!!! So never give up - it will happen when the time is right!! Good luck!!!!

You should go to a Reproductive Endocrinologist for an opinion.  A regular ob-gyn probably won't think two miscarriages is unusual (I think they don't even test until you have three).  But you don't want to waste time, so go to an RE and see what he/she says.  You are still young enough that you should have several treatment options.
