Regular monthly and ovulating...so why am i not preggo?

I have a list of issues that came up since the beginning of the year. I just need someone to give me an idea as to what they think can be an underlying problem for me not to be able to get pregnant.  Ok.  Im extremly anemic, hyperthoid-Graves disease, but a very mild case that my doc didnt really think i should take meds for. I have regular monthly cylces..anywhere from 25 to 29 days.. my cylces have VERY large clots (sorry).  I do ovulate around day 15 of my cycle. What should i concentrate on first?  the Anemia, the thyroid issue or figuring out why i clot so bad???  Help. Please.

Hi!
The anemia should be worked up with some lab tests.  If you find out why you are anemic, then you should be able to correct it fairly easily.  The most common cause is iron deficiency--this could be a result of your heavy periods, so this could be a chicken/egg question.  Since you want to get pregnant anyway, why not start taking a prenatal vitamin and iron supplement and see if that helps the anemia.  It would be ideal to control the hyperthyroidism because that can be related to infertility and also problems during pregnancy.  If you have no symptoms, and it is only lab tests that are giving you the diagnosis, you may not need treatment.  Thyroid problems could also cause period problems.

The regularity of your cycles suggests that you are ovulating.  The large clots suggest something like fibroids.  If you were my patient, the next study I would do for you is an ultrasound of the uterus/ovaries.  It could be done at mid cycle, so you can see how your follicles are maturing, and if your lining is healthy.  You will also probably need some sort of study to check to be sure that your tubes are not blocked. Such as an HSG (hysterosalpingogram).

I hope this is helpful information!
Good luck!
