Sonohysterography

I am 38, I went to a succesful IVF because of male factor 7 years ago, from that try I have some embryos frozen and  I am planning on doing a FET soon, in the past before my IVF the Dr did a Sonohysterography that lead to the detection of a polyp which it was removed before my IVF, this time around I do not wish to have a sonohysterogram done,  I do not if I am being foolish but I think many women probably have polyps and get pregnant anyway.
My main concern is the question that if I do get pg a polyp would cause a misscarriage?  and  Am I more prone to have another polyp because I had one in the past?

thanks

Hi!
I'm happy to hear that you had success!  If you were my patient, I would gently try to coax you into having the sono-hysterogram.  You ARE at higher risk of having a polyp since you had one previously, and it COULD interfere with implantation or cause a miscarriage.  If it is the discomfort that concerns you, you might want to ask about having a hysteroscopy done instead. This procedure is often done under anesthesia--you would be knocked out and not feel a thing.  If it is the expense, it is well worth the cost to be sure that those precious embryos have their best chance.
One more thing to consider--sometimes polyps are pre-cancerous or even contain small foci of cancer.  Not trying to scare you, just one more reason to do the scan.
I wish you all the best!
