Unable to conceive

Myself and my husband have been trying for over 6months now and how no idea why we cannot conceive. Could there be something wrong with me, should I start panicing to my doctor? I don't think I can face another month of this, it is horrid, I'm sure it's me.

Is there any tips? The only 1 I've picked up on is evening primrose oil and folic acid.

On the 30/06/09 I only had 1 day on and then not much at all after but I have just failed the test again! - 05/07/09

Hi Dr brown,
I went to see an OBGYN this morning and feels more lost now than before. I seem to have more information given to me online than from her. I told her that my husband and I have been married for a year and I have not gotten pregnant as yet. We have not been trying (not charting, checking my cycle etc) but we have not been doing anything to stop it either. I am 30 years old and my husband is 28 yrs old. She did not prescribe anything and she basically told me that a lot of stuff is OTC now. What should I do? which doctor should I have seen? someone told me to use fertilaid...I am seriously considering this. However, I do not want to mess up anything with me. I really want a child (as i'm sure do lots of women) I've heard about vitex and maca too; evening primrose oil etc: My OBGYN did not even prescribe a prenatal vitamin; She did not take any blood test; She did not discuss my options all she said was that I need to chart everything for 13 months..or that was the usual. I see some people were talking about fertility blend as well. should I also get a multivitamin for my husband as well? Any help or direction that you can give us will be useful. At this point I feel like we're in a room feeling around in the dark trying to get out. please help!

Hi!
If you are under 30, I would recommend giving it another 6 months before you start extensive testing.  I would also STRONGLY recommend relaxing and having fun while you try.  If you are over 30, it might be time to schedule a check up with your MD.  If you came to see me, I would have you start checking ovulation predictors, and I would do some baseline hormone levels--including thyroid, prolactin and progesterone levels.  I would have him do a semen analysis too.  If all of that looked good, the next step would be an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) which is a dye study to check the fallopian tubes. Those are the biggest problem areas.  Usually doing these simple tests can rule in or rule out major problems  and point you in the direction of trying longer on your own, or scheduling an appointment with a RE for more extensive testing and possible assisted reproductive technologies.
I hope this helps!
Good luck!

Hi 6 months really isn't that long although I know it must feel like an eternity to you.

I live in the UK and here we are told that if you are under 35 that you have to try for 12 months before seeking the help of the Dr and 6 months if you are over 35. After that time they can run basic tests on you initially bloodwork etc to make sure your hormones are in check and then more indepth tests after that. They will probably get your husband checked out too just to make sure there are no problems with his S/A

Folic Acid is a brilliant start and so is EPO (don't take the EPO after you have ovulated though as it can cause contractions) With regards to the above poster and Fertilaid... I took that for a few months after my M/C... it is very good at regulating hormones if you think you have an imbalance. Obviously if you are already fit and healthy then you wont need to make any changes to your lifestyle but if not then now is a good time to start.

Are you monitoring your cycles with charting your temps, cervical mucas and OPK's.

Good luck :)

I'm in the same boat as you. :(   I'm scared to death that something is wrong with me too.  My friend suggested an herbal supplement called "Fertilaid".  She tried it, and less than a week (after almost a year of trying), she got pregnant.  I've been taking it for a month, so hopefully something will happen soon. I'm hoping this works b/c I really don't want to have to go to a specialist. If you try it though, I hope it works for you!!

ALSO, I wanted to mention stay away from NSAIDs like advil, alleve, etc.....they hinder in ovulation and lead to miscarriage.......

Along with your prenatal vitamin which already has the folic acid for you, take vitamin B6 and B12!! My RE says the OTC Prenatals are fine to take. My RE has me taking these vitamins, he thinks they are very important for conception!

Have you an ovulation predictor kit yet? I buy the "Answer" 20 day strips from wal mart. I start checking for "O" the day after my period ends, and stop once it detects the LH surge. We BD the ame day/night, the next night, and the next for back up. We also BD every other night strting on day 11 until we get the LH surge then we BD next three days in a row. This worked very well for me the 1st two pregnancies.

I am now almost 39, and we were following these same procedures for a year and nothing. I am now seeing an RE and doing IUI's. We realized I now have what is called LUFS (Lutineized unruptured follicle syndrome). Some dr.s dont believe in this, but luckily mine does. I get the LH surge, produce nice mature follicles but never release the egg(s) from the ovaries. We are going to injectibles along with Femara, and Novril this cycle to try to get that egg released! An Ultra Sound can determine whether the egg was released on not.

Since you are stll young I doubt this is your problem, I think your timing is just off. Try the ovulation predictor kit for a few months and see what happens. Wishing you lots of BABY DUST!!!!
