Will i ever have a successful pregnancy?

Will i ever have a successful pregnancy?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in September 09 and this year and I've had two miscarriages. I am taking Metformin, 500 mg 2x a day. I saw the doctor (GYN)last month and she informed me that all my test were normal. I was told to loose some weight, i have lost 15 pounds. I will be seeing her next week because she said that if something was wrong the blood tests performed would have to be abnormal but i'm confused i do not have any of the symptoms except absent periods. She also said that I am ovulating or else I would not have been pregnant twice. Should she be checking for something else perhaps because my husband and i are trying to have a baby. i don't think i could handle another miscarriage. I have this pain on the left side of my abdomin (abdomen) and my breasts are tender. Since I have not had a period in a long time I don't even know what's going on with my body. Please help me. Thank you.

HI!
First of all, take a pregnancy test!  The MOST common reason for missed periods is pregnancy.  Second of all, infrequent or absent periods is called PCOS.  Don't worry about being confused, it is a stupid name!  It would be much better to call it a hormone imbalance, or a variety of hormone imbalances.  The name is left over from the old days.
Metformin is a good start, but if you are not having periods regularly, you are not ovulating regularly.  Your doctor is correct that you have to ovulate to conceive!  It is much faster to conceive if you ovulate every month.
If you were my patient, I would add Femara to your regimen to help with that.
We don't usually work up recurrent miscarriages until there are three, but you could certainly investigate whether there is any family history of conditions such as Lupus or blood clotting disorders ( excessive clotting ).  Also, any history of birth defects or miscarriages would be useful information for your doctor to have too.
I certainly hope that you don't have any more miscarriages!  They are so devastating, especially when you don't have any kids.
There is some recent data to suggest that miscarriages are reduced in PCOS patients who take Metformin during their first trimester, so stick with it.  I would probably also supplement progesterone too if you do conceive.
Good luck!
Dr B

Thank you so much for the information. I will certainly talk to my doctor about the way I feel, and hopefully she will say the same things you said. Thank you very much.
