adenomyosis and fertility

by lucky mom of 2, Mar 14, 2007 12:00AM
I was dx with endometroisis at age 18. I am now 37. I have been on Lupron, Synarel and BCP and have been blessed with two beautiful children, however I would love one more. My youngest is 4. After her birth I was fine with no symptoms up until 1 year ago. We got pregnant and I mc at 12 weeks. For about 1 year or so I have different cramps (only during menstruation), not like endo, but lower and almost like a  gnawing pain. The bleeding is very heavy and large clots for 7 days. My doctor says its probably adendomyosis. I know what that is, and it sound correct. My question is did this cause the mc and now after the mc since 1/06 we are ttc again to no avail. Does adenomyosis cause infertility, and could the fertilized egg be having problems implanting or something similar to this? Any ideas on treatment if we choose to not ttc or if we continue to ttc? Thankyou for your time in this matter.

Adenomyosis is not typically considered to be a contributor to infertility, although in theory I agree with you and wonder if it can sometimes play a role in affecting implantation. Having said that, most miscarriages are due to genetic abnormalities in the embryo, and unfortunately miscarriages are common. There is no 'cure' for adenomyosis. For women symptomatic with heavy periods and pain, the birth control pill is often effective, but of course this cannot be taken if you want to get pregnant! Bottom line....even if adenomyosis is contributing, there is no cure, so 'it is what it is'. I would not give up on trying to get pregnant.
