blighted ovum twice

blighted ovum twice

i had first B/O in Jul 08, second B/O in Dec 08. I can conceive easily, but seems always turn out to be blighted ovum (B/O). After D&C, products of conception taken for chromosome test, karyotype 46XX, with no abnormality. Husband has done SA, with 82% viability, 19% normal forms. Further tests for ANTI DS DNA/ LUPUS ANTICOAG / ANTI DOUBLE-STRANDED DNA ANTIBODY all came back negative. What should i do now? Desperate for help!

Hi!
I'm sorry for your losses! Blighted ova are very common--in fact, they cause about 50-60% of first trimester miscarriages.  Most sources say that it is uncommon to have more than one--but you could obviously take issue with that!  Still, most fertility experts would tell you not to worry unless it happens a third time--the majority of doctors would tell you to go ahead and try again without investing in lots of expensive testing.
Some tests you could consider--sperm DNA fragmentation testing.
maternal and paternal karyotypes
anticardiolipin antibody and lupus anticoagulant antibody testing.
You could also consider a consultation with a genetic counselor to  determine whether there are any hereditary diseases in either family that need to be tested for.
All of these things are costly, and again--MOST docs would say DO NOT do them unless you have a third loss.

Good luck!
Dr B
