could I really be pregnant at 51?

At the age of 50 I stopped using oral contraceptives and my boyfriend and I have used condoms (most of the time).
My periods have been very light but very regular every 3 weeks. I am concerned that I may be pregnant. I am 5 days late and my breasts are tender and my nipples are extremely sore. What is the likelyhood that I could be pregnant?
I am in excellent health. What are my chances of delivering a healthy baby?

PS I had twin daughters at the age of 30 after taking Clomid for 3 months.
Thank you for your help!

Hi Dr. Brown, Please let me know if I am worrying too much? I just went through IUI semination last friday, and today a few days later. I am experiencing white discharge. Is that a sign of a negative pregnancy?

Hi!
I ALWAYS recommed a pregnancy test!  I have seen a patient who delivered number one at 50 and number two at 51!  At your age, there is a significant risk of chromosomal abnormalities, so if the test is positive, I would encourage you to delve into the list of options for antenatal testing such as:  CVS, amniocentesis, PAPP a protein, nuchal translucency, etc.
Good luck!
