hcg levels

Hi,
I currently have one 3 year old daughter and have had two miscarriages after her.  I currently should be starting 7 weeks of pregnancy tomorrow.  Also on an estrogen patch and progesterone shots.  I guess that I just need some reassurance.  At 14 dpo my HCG was 72...16 dpo HCG was 157.
At 22 dpo my HCG was 1915 then they tested 3 days later (25 dpo) and HCG was 3750....a doubling of 3 days.  Finally they tested then 4 days after that and my numbers were 7900.  My doctor said that once numbers hit around 1500 they take about 3 days to double then once they get higher around 4 days.  This would be appearing what mine have done but I'm concernced because they were doubling every 40 hours in the beginning and now appear to be slowing down.
I had an ultrasound done at exactly 6 weeks and it showed a gestational sac, yolk sac, and what appeared to be a fetal pole.  They now dont want to see me again for 2 weeks which would put me at 8 weeks and I'm very nervous.
What are your feelings with these numbers???
Nervous about a 3rd miscarriage...

Hi, I am a mother of two (16 and 5) my first took me 3 years to get pregnant by taking Vitamin B Complex , the year after I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks (RH) after wards I became pregnant in 1999 through IVF because my pregesterone level was too low I had my son in 2000,two years later I became pregnant out of nowhere and had a miscarriage at 6 weeks, a year later I became pregnant again, I had a positive HPT, I had an U/S heard the heartbeat and a few days later I began bleeding went to the hospital and had a "fetal demise". So I am concerned now and would not like to be dissappointed, here is my situation. My last mense was on 2-11-07 and became concerned when I had a HPT and it was hegative (month after month), then on 5-29-07 the day before I left on a cruise I checked and it was negative but I was concerned I am only 37 could I be going through menopause? So we got back on a Monday and I called my doctor and made an appoitment , I then went to the pharmacy and bought two HPT, guess what??? They were both strong positives. I go to the doctor a few days (Friday) later and they confirmed I was and it was a faint positive, the doctor not my regular one (he was rude and cold) said through the LMP you should be 4 months and at your age the baby could have problems there are choices I was so upset, I told him if I am or not I will deal with it but I will have it. He proceded to give me an u/s and it was negative nothing was there not it or out so I cannot be 4 months. So to confirm they checked my blood and they came back(Tuesday) with an HCG level of 336 or so, they requested for me to go back that same day for another blood work and I just got the call that my HCG level was 560 or so and the nurse said that was good. I feel sleepy , my breat are so sore I have to put ice and my back aches which are symptoms. I have no spotting praise the Lord. So has anyone had this happen to them I am scared, we want this baby so bad. Can anyone guide me on what to think. Are the levels good, shold I worry.

Please keep me in your prayers.

Many Blessings,

Ydania

Once you see a gestational sac and yolk sac in the uterus, the numbers become irrelevent. All of the numbers are compatible with a normal pregnancy; the belief that beta-HCG levels need to double every two days is in fact a myth. Viable pregnancies have been reported with HCG levels that increase by as little as 53% every two days - not even close to 200% (doubling). I can certainly understand your anxiety with your past history; by 6 1/2 weeks one should be able to see a fetal heart in close to 100% of viable pregnancies. If you wish, you might want to call your MD and see if you can get an ultrasound 7-10 days after the last one, rather than having to wait that long two weeks. Good luck, and seeing a gestational sac, yolk sac, and probable fetal pole is a good start!

While you're waiting for the doctor to respond:  the doubling of my HCG level also took longer as the numbers got higher, and I was also told by my specialist that that was normal.  Plus, if you read information online about HCG levels, it appears there is a wide variation in what is considered normal.  BTW, when I had my 6 week ultrasound last week, the doctor checked my progesterone, but not my HCG levels; so I think once you have confirmation of the pregnancy by ultrasound, those levels really aren't too important.  Plus it sounds like your doctor is very thorough, so if he/she says not to worry, I think you can relax--at least on this issue!

One typo....at 22 dpo I said that my numbers were 1915...actually they were 1850.  Just wanted to clarify that in case that would help!

Lastly,
I'm on progesterone shots and my progesterone has constantly been in the 40's and I'm also on an estrogen patch along with taking a baby aspirin!
