late ovulation and miscarriage

by Bel55, Oct 05, 2007 12:00AM

I have been ovulating late in my cycle often only a week before my period arrives,I have also suffered 2 miscarriages this year due to babies with chromosomal abnormalities, could these two be linked?I have also heard that some people are just unable to carry a certain sex baby to term is this true?I have a healthy boy and have lost 2 girls through miscarriage.

If your two miscarriages had shown normal chromosomes, I would be a little suspicious that the short time between ovulation and your periods was playing a role. However as both miscarriages have shown chromosome abnormalities your timing of ovulation is not the cause. After two miscarriages, you may want to be evaluated by a reproductive endocrinologist; most of the time the evaluation comes back reassuring and you are given a green light to try again. Sometimes miscarriages due to chromosome abnormalities can be due to a chromosome re-arrangement called a translocation in you or your partner, so testing for this should be part of the investigation.

It is untrue that some people are unable to carry certain sex babies. Unfortunate coincidence in your case that both your losses were girls.

Finally, if all your testing comes back normal, even though I don't think the short time between ovulation and your period is the cause, you could consider taking supplemental progesterone after ovulation and this too is something to talk over with your doctor.

Good luck!
