optimum TSH for person with history of infertility

I am 36 years old and have been trying to concieve for 3 1/2 years. Two years ago my TSH was 3.4. It is now 7.9. My other labs (FSH, Estradiol, and prolactin) are WNL. My fertility MD has referred me to my primary care doctor to treat my hypothyroidism before continuing with fertility treatments (I was doing IUIs with injections). My question is what is the recommended goal for TSH level for someone like me with difficulty conceiving?  Should I ask my primary care doctor to check my thyroid antibodies? Thank you

Yes! Definitely have him check for the antibodies as they can lead to miscarriage. 7.9 is very high and could alone be the cause of your infertility. My RE treats my thyroid disorder. I was at a 6.0 in the Fall. Last checked I had gone down to a 1.8, but did IVF and got pregnant (I am now 5 weeks) which has made it go back up to a 5.5. My RE said that is quite common when you get pregnant. My dose has just been increased. My RE said they like to see TSH no more than a 3 for everyone, but for those trying to conceive they prefer to see it at a 1 or a 2. Mine actually got down to a 1.8 from a 6.0 rather quickly.....I think within 3-4 weeks. Good luck!
