pregnant after IVF, concern about 6 1/2 wk ulrasound...

I had my first ultrasound at 6 1/2 weeks pregnant. I finally got pregnant after doing IVF. My husband and I are both 29. Anyway, at my ultrasound my RE measured it at 6 weeks, so it was a littls small and there was on heartbeat. My RE said it could go one of two ways. Either my next ultrasound this coming week will show growth and a heartbeat, or it will show no growth and the embryo passed at six weeks. I don't know what to think. She didn't really tell me what she thought. She said she really couldn't tell just yet. I'm just so concerned, I was wondering if I have any chance at all of it turning out ok. I feel like the pregnancy is over. Do you have any opinions on this?

Also, if it was a miscarriage, does that mean that my next pregnancy will more likely than not turn out the same?

Thank you for your time,
Carisa

Do not be discouraged. A discrepancy of only 1/2 week is, in my opinion, within normal limits. A matter of 1 or 2 mm on an ultrasound can affect the calculated gestational age. Having a 6 week pregnancy with a heartbeat is not a guarantee that the pregnancy will progress, but the chances that it will are 85%. I think an ultrasound showing a pregnancy and a heartbeat is great news!!

To: I forgot to add.......
I forgot to add that my initial hcg beta #s were good. My first one 9 days post 5 day transfer was 160, my second two days later was 337. I don't know if that even matters in this event. Just thought I'd add that.

Thanks.

Hi
I am 39 yrs. old and I am at 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant and my doctor did an ultrasound yesterday and said she could barely see it.  My HCG numbers went from 530 to 730 (not doubling) but she said it is going up and that is good.  Should I be worried that this may turn into a miscarriage because of the low numbers?

While everyone is different I know from my own experience that when my levels were not doubling I ended up miscarrying.  But AGAIN before you freak out, just wait to see what your next appointment reveals!  Good luck to you!!!
