question to E. Brown

question to E. Brown

Dr. Brown, you said you implanted three embryos and you had triplets. I was told that with transfer of 3 embryos I have 45 percent chances for twins. What is the logic behind the number of embryos transferred and multiple pregnancy? You were in your forties when you had the IVF. According to the doctors women in their forties have less than 10 percent chances. How did all that work for you so well? Will appreciate your response. Regards, Maria

Hi!
I was told that there was only a 1% chance that all three embryos would implant and grow.  I was told about the same number (45% or so) of success with twins.  I might not have transferred 3 embryos if the numbers had been higher, although I would never give back my babies now!
Actually, the BEST outcome for IVF is a single baby or twins.  A higher order pregnancy adds additional risk, and that is not good for mother or babies.  My babies spent almost 1 month in the hospital after they were born, and that is definitely NOT a desireable outcome.
I hope this answers some of your questions -- good luck!
