I am 40 years old and as I have posted before, I had a TL right after I had my son in 2002. My LMP was Jan. 23-27 and I am regular. I've never missed a period except for when I was pregnant. My husband and I had sex everyday for the next 4-5 days after my period was over. Nine days after my period ended, I had spotting for 2 and a half days, starting from a light pink when I wipe, to a brownish color when it ended. I had started experiencing dull cramping and lower backache soon afterwards. I had taken 5 hpt abd they all said negative. I went to the doctor yesterday, by this time, still no period, (I'm 8 days late) and she did a urine test only, and again, bfn! She didn't feel on my stomach or anything or ordered an ultrasound. I am at a lost for words because, after telling her my symptoms and concern if its a possible tubal pregnancy, I feel as if she had brushed me off. If I am pregnant, I would be overjoyed but still if I'm not, I would still like to know what is going on. I'm not stressed or anything. And I'm starting to feel uncomfortable laying on my stomach. (Bloating) and tingling in my breasts comes and goes. If I go to the emergency room or urgent care, is it possible that they will do blood work or an ultrasound? I need to know. And if I am pregnant, (hopefully) I would like to get prenatal care as soon as possible because I was always high risk. Any comments or advice is welcome.
Hi! If you were my patient, I would advise you that urine pregnancy tests are extremely reliable these days and only on a very rare occasion do we find a discrepancy between the blood and urine tests. At the age of 40 and beyond , it becomes increasingly common to miss periods. What is happening in most cases is that your older (sorry) ovaries are "losing steam" and not ovulating as regularly as before. If you don't ovulate, you won't have a period. We don't tend to be too concerned about this in a peri-menopausal woman. If you were my patient, I would suggest an ultrasound though, to look for a cyst on your ovary. I doubt there is a baby, but I would repeat the pregnancy test! Good luck! Dr B
Start taking care of yourself like you are pregnant. Get on vitamins. Some women it take a bit for the numbers to build up enough to register. Just your age doesn't count you as high risk any more. I'm 42 and that doesn't qualify me!! Call and set up an appt with your ob, take care of yourself like you did last time you were high risk and if there are any problems go to the ER. I am like clockwork and have never missed a period. A few months ago I was 14 days late and had all the symptoms but never showed up on pee test??? Good luck.
Im 39yo,,, my last regular period was 18 yrs ago,,,( thats when i started working after i graduated from college) and the folowing years was only induced by some pills just to have menses,,,
Im 12 yrs married(2002-to present) no biological child but with adopted daughter who is 4 yo next month,,,last 2007 on our 5th yr,, i got positive hpt but terminated after 2 weeks,,from then on i didnt get any more positive results :(. fyi,, from 2005-2008 we undergo medical treatment together with my husband,,but sad to say no successful results,,,
All my repro-endo had almost the same findings that i have poor ovarian reserved,,,polycystic,,,not ovulating anymore,,,but contraty to all these finding all my bloodtest are nirmal,,,from tsh,fsh,prolaction,t3,t4,kyrotyping,,etc,,,my fallopian and uterus are normal,,is just that my ovaries are small niwadays based from my latest tvs,,,(only last month),,
I still want to get pregnant eventhough the doctors (more than 8 obgynes/repro endo) told me that no chance, less chance to get pregannt, some say its un explainabke why ironically the bloodtest are contraindicating to the present status of my small ovaries,,
