will I conceive after myomectomy

will I conceive after myomectomy

I am 27 years old and have never been pregnant. I had a myomectomy in feb. 2008. My uterus was the size of a 20 week pregnancy. The fibroids weighed 15 lbs. total. I'd like to know if you think I'll be able to become pregnant and if so will I be able to carry the baby to term?

Hi!
Wow!  I'll bet you felt lots better after that surgery!  One thing to remember is that statistically you have about a 20% chance that new fibroids will grow eventually.

If you were my patient, I would send you for an HSG (hysterosonogram) this is a dye study that will show the shape of your uterine cavity, and whether or not your tubes are open.  The shape and size of your uterine cavity will tell a lot about whether you can carry a baby.

One other thing--under NO CIRCUMSTANCES would I let you go into labor!  As soon as the baby's lungs were ready (36-37 weeks) I would take the baby c-section, so there was no risk of you rupturing your uterus on any of the myoma scars.

Good luck!
