Brown discharge, black clots, infertility?

Hi all,
We've been trying to conceive for over a year...my periods are a little longer than most, cycle is usually 33-36 days.  For the past 9-10 months I've been having brown discharge  about a week after my period ends or mid-cycle, sometimes tinged with black.My docs seemed unconcerned.  This month I finished my period on day 6 and on day 8 I started with watery brown discharge with has continued through today (day 20), and this morning I had a  large black clot.  My husband and I had intercouse 2 days ago.  No pain in the pelvic area at all, in fact I don't even feel like I'm about to ovulate (though my monitor says I am at "high").  I had a normal OB/GYN exam 5 months ago.  Obviously, I'm concerned.  Any ideas?  I know I'm not pregnant, or if I am it's only been 2 days.  I know this could be "old" blood but for 12 days with a black clot?  Oh and I'm 34 years old with no history of cancer,  etc...and I've never been on birth control.
Just wondering if this could be serious (like cancer) or part of my infertility issues.  I'm living in another state for the summer so I don't have my regular docs here, though looking for an ob/gyn to get it checked out.
Any advice, similar stories, etc., would put my mind at ease.

I have had this black clotting that lasts all the way to ovulation for the past 3 years. It started after I got my first period after childbirth. I have had it every single cycle since then. I have had a lot of tests done and my ob/gyn doesn't seem concerned. He actually told me to go on birth control or get pregnant. I am getting ready to start trying for another baby and am scared. Were you able to get pregnant and if so did it stop after you got your period after childbirth?

Black Discharge

I got married five years back,but i am trying to get pregnant,but no chances.

On last day got mensurations started,during the day i got vigina discharge like black colour.I am too scared now, that will affect my fertility.

Please advise what do i needed to do further.

Thanks so much for the response.  No I haven't had my progesterone checked.  I've only done some blood work to check TSH levels and the only thing that came up was that I had an underactive thyroid.  It was suggested I go on Synthroid but for now I'm declining and taking herbal thyroid supplements.  
I am scheduled for an HSG soon.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time.  But have you had your Progesterone levels checked?  I ask because low Progesterone can cause "brown" spotting but I don't know about black spotting.  I know you can spot during ovulation also so maybe the way your uterus is, the blood doesn't come down until later and that causes the "old" blood.  I've had black blood before, only once and it was during a ttc cycle where I thought I was preggo, AF came lightly and stopped suddenly for almost a day and then all of a sudden had a black heavy discharge for an instant before it stopped.  So to me, it was probably "old" blood that got trapped before coming out or something.  I don't know, I'm just guessing.  But if your doc sees no infections or anything I would ask for an infertility workup since you've been trying over a year.  That would include your Progesterone test.
