Getting Pregnant

Hello,
My husband and I have recently decided to try to have a baby. I have already had a preconception visit, but came up with some questions since then. I have been taking prenatal vitamins and just went off of my birth control pill...I should be getting my period this week.

I was wondering what the usual time frame for conception is. I was on the pill for 8 years before going off of it and have not had a non-birth control period since I started them. Will the length of time I was on the pill affect my chances? Also, is it possible to conceive while on your period or is it just when you are ovulating that you can get pregnant?

I appreciate your help!

I went off the pill 5 months ago after being on it for about 10 yrs. I've only had 2 periods since, one being brought on by provera. I think it is different for everyone, but for me it is taking my body some time to get back on track. I've heard of people getting pregnant right away and some it takes some time. Good luck to you!! :)

I was on depo provera for around 2 years and a few years previous to that .. It's taken me 6 months to get back to a normal cycle but that's just standard with the provera when I came off bc pill I went back to normal the following month best way to know when you are ovulating is to count bak 14 days from when your next AF is due and that's on average your ovulation date but everyone is different .. I would recommend the countdown to pregnancy website it has a lot of info and a lot of people who are Ttc .. I'm on there my name is shneek91 if you have any questions :) hope this helps! X babydust to you! X

Iv heard that once your off the pill your more fertile but idk how true it is. You can only get pregnant around the time you ovulate which is normally 12-14 days after the first day of your period. If you have irregular periods its a little harder to track. Some women don't get on a regular cycle til they've been off the pill for 2-3 months. Really the best advice is to have sex regularly unless you want to track it then wait til you know your cycle.
But good luck hope I helped(:
