Two things that drive me crazy, "Bring Our Troops Home"  if you ask our troops who they want for president over 70% of them are voteing for McCain. I got that from my husbands "Navy Times".  Yes, I want all of our men and women in the service to be home, but if you ask them they have a job to do and want McCain as there leader.  Everyone wants to blame Bush for our current economic situation, it was explained above how the financial institutions played a big part in that, also have any of you head of a little thing like the "North American Free Trade Agreement"?  That little beauty played a big part in sending a lot of our jobs to Mexico, with no tarrif (import taxes) for imports made within North America. It was passed during the Clinton administration.  Also, during the Clinton administration an E-1 was payed less then minimum wage, which resulted in many lower enlisted military members with families having to resort to welfare or some sort of assisted living program to survive. During the Clinton administration also no less than five major terrorist attacks were performed against US citizens and service personnel. Funny noone remembers the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 (6 killed), the Khobar Towers bombing (US Air Force barracks, 19 killed) in Saudi Arabia, the twin bombings of two US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania (11 killed, 85 wounded), and the USS Cole (DDG-67) bombing inport Aden, Yemen (17 killed, 39 wounded). That is 53 US citizens killed by al-Qaeda (all these attacks were preformed by al-Qaeda), and the only repercussion was a few missiles lauched into Afghanistan after the Embassy bombings.

Each person needs to examine the history of the United States, who was President of our country when major events happened, and how that President reacted as a result of the event. Every US citizen needs to assume personal responsibility for themselves and for their families, and stop blaming the federal government for their failure of taking care of themselves and their situation. Yes, help should be made available to those who are incapable of taking care of themselves, but not to those who choose not to.

Lastly, to those ladies who choose not to vote, please review this article in Wikipedia on what women had to do to get the right to vote: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_suffrage

Please honor those who came before us and what they fought so very hard for and vote. Regardless of who you vote for, just vote.

As Obama said in his last debate, nobody's pro-abortion.  Definitely pro-choice but there's a huge, monumental difference.  This being said, I really don't want to start a war about this issue - just wanted to clear one thing up.

I don't think either candidate is capable of cleaning up the mess we're in.  In terms of personality, I think Obama will make a better president, unfortunately, his economic plan makes NO sense to me.  Nor does his energy plan.

Unfortunately, I strongly believe that, if Obama goes into office, our taxes will increase tremendously.  And the "rich" will find a way to get richer...

With that said, I still don't know who I will vote for :(

To be honest he is pro-abortion per the situation (mothers health, baby not fully developed, etc)  I could see if he had no children but I think every woman should have their own decision based on what happens.  For instance:  Where I stay there was a father that raped his 8yr old daughter and got pregnant (yes the lil girl had her AF early). The mother did not believe that her husband did that to her child.  The mother took the child to the doctor and found out the lil girl was 2 months pregnant.  After the 8yr old had her baby they did test that confirmed that it was his.  The mother stood by his side and called her daughter a liar.  The little girl to this day is staying with family members with her sister/daughter...(sad huh) yea when I heard that I could not believe it myself and thought of how that 8yr old must have been feeling.  (now in that case I believe the family either had 2 choices abortion or adoption.  (Being it was an 8yr old you would want the best for as well so what would yall have done.)  Obama doesnt say yea if you dont want the baby then do an abortion, he says if there is a medical condition or a situation of rape then it should be the mothers decision.  (not being rude, just facts)

I dont want to get into politics, but it seems like every republican says they are going to do something about abortion and nothing has been done. I am definalty against people using abortion as a  form of birth control though. I can see some peoples view if they were raped so I dont think people use abortions only because they weren't careful. I'm not sure who I'm voting for, but I'm definalty voting for the person that I think will help this economy. NOW... if one of them said they were going to make infertility mandated in every state. I think I would vote for that person.

Obama.  I believe he is an honest, sincere and caring person.  Unfortunately, I believe McCain will do anything to win - like change his position on several social and tax issues in order to gain support from the conservative base.  Also, both McCain and Palin have avoided and lied on the issue of whether the tax bailout is socialism - let's face it, it is and McCain voted for it.  I, like Colin Powell, am terribly frustrated at the tenor of their campaign - particularly when it comes to equating Obama to terrorism b/c of his name . . .

I hope I do not offend.  At my heart, I am a very strong supporter in the political process and am a STRONG believer in voting - to me, it is a cherished honor that not every country has and that so many men and women died in order to sustain our right to vote.  So, bottom line for me - Just vote!

I don't think either candidate is a good choice. Obama lies big time and McCain just is going to go with the flow and not change anything. Obama doesn't have enough experience to run a country. I guess if I have to vote it would be for McCain. I'm scared of what might happen if Obama gets in there. I don't think he will back anything that he preaches. He just says what we want to hear.

Despite my party affiliation, I tend to be fiscally conservative and would prefer that Obama not raise taxes on ANYONE.  The worse thing to do in my opinion is to raise taxes on anybody despite their income level - even 3%.  I realize taxes are our burden to bear and lessening the taxes on middle class is desirable but increasing taxes on the wealthy - in my opinion $250,000 in this day and age shouldn't be considered rich - is ridiculous just to put in more government programs that could possibly fail and get us more in debt.

This being said, I'm still voting for Obama.  The war in Iraq is one reason plus I think we need a breath of fresh air (and I don't mean Palin) & that makes him desirable in my eyes.  If I were McCain; however, I would hammer Obama's tax plan vigorously to be stay in the race.

His other resolves plus his character mean a lot to me as well.  I tend to be liberal on social issues.  His health care plan could work.  We're in the health-care field & I find his health plan much more sensible than McCain's.  He will consult w/some advisors that I find worthy (Warren Buffet for one).

I am concerned about a windfalls profit tax.  My family owns a small oil and gas production company.  We're no 'big oil' company but we would lose our shirts if a windfall profit tax is implemented.  I see no good coming from this and I wonder if politicians even have any business sense (either candidate).

But McCain pulls my heartstrings.  When he gave his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, I cried.  I believe he means well and is a man of courage.  But so is Obama.

One other thing - I don't think I could vote for McCain simply because of his running mate.  Sarah Palin, while being a charismatic speaker, simply seems appallingly ignorant of many important issues facing our nation.  She's plain scary!

Sorry I ranted on so long - I always wanted to put down my thoughts on this election and decided to bore everyone w/my freakin' long post!!!

I really don't like either candidate so I really don't know who to vote for.  Neither speaks to the issues that are important to me (environment and special needs) so it's going to be a really hard decision for me.  I wish Judge Judy were on the ballot.  ;-)

Besides the Iraq war and our deficit, one of the biggest reasons we are in this financial crisis isn't due to politics or corporations (per se) but rather consumer greed (and greed from a lot of irresponsible mortgage lenders. The housing crisis is imacting everyone and as a result, the financial markets are in a complete mess. Many consumers purchased homes they couldn't afford and either didn't read or didn't understand the impact of interest only or negative amortization (aka option arms - note that Washington Mutual and Countrywide were the largest issuers of these loans so look up their news/stock prices over the last four years) and how the payment would be way more than what they budgeted. Then, to make matters worse, those same consumers pulled out record levels of equity from their homes (and in turn buying consumer goods vs. putting back the equity into the home such as finishing a basement or landscaping, etc.) so when housing prices fell, even if they could sell them, they owed more than what the house was worth so there was really no option for these homeowners but to foreclose. To top off all of this irresponsible borrowing, credit card debt has increased over 300% in the last three years. Just think, this was BEFORE unemployement levels started to increase...

Now, what nobody tells you...Did all of you know that banks/lenders are supposed to have a percentage of their business for "emerging markets" (aka Subprime) consumers? These are low income and minority consumers who typically don't have even close the the credit quality as the average consumer. These loans in turn, were sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac under their own government programs and we all know what happened there. People who thought they would be able to afford home ownership had their home taken away from them due to foreclosure and that makes their credit ratings even worse. The biggest watchdog to make sure these consumers had lending availability is ACORN.

The way to fix the economy is for consumers to spend money on consumable goods not to tax us. This does not mean irresponsible buying with credit cards, which won't even matter because interest rates will be so high and credit frozen so consumers won't be able to get as much credit as before. The worst thing we can do is tax people since it just takes the disposable cash out of their accounts and back to the government for "programs".

I am an independent voter and don't identify myself with either party but I have also been in the banking/mortgage/financial services industry for over 10 years now and I have seen directly how we are impacting the economy. What makes me so mad is that everyone points to the institutions when things aren't going well for us when we should really be pointing the finger inward as it is really the American consumers who were/are driving the economy in this direction. There are still around $850 billion of those interest only and neg am loans that will reset in 2009 and 2010 according to a study done by Lehman Brothers (again, look at their position now) back in 5/2005 so we still have about 24 months of this to go. If the government doesn't mess up the bailout, it should help a bit.

Wow, I NEVER thought I would talk about politics on this site. I am tempted to hit my delete button but I am afraid that we are not getting the true story from the news/government. This will be my last message ladies. Let's put all of this passion into some SSBD!!!! ; )

I would just like to say that- line in the sand or not, if America crashes, we all burn. The rich, the poor, the middle class, the upper class....everybody suffers. So, suffer now or suffer later- something has to be done! If only there was such a thing as a money tree!

And EXCELLENT point LIL_LADY24! But we have nothing to worry about because Presidential Candidates are the most honest, humble, trustworthy people around. LOL!

Well......from seeing the debate last night I think both of them were trying to make the other feel so much smaller.  But all in all, I, like other woman in these forums want children so bad that they want the best for them when they are older.  So saying that I believe Obama has a more suitable plan for the children futures.  On another note taxes are something we cant run or hide from so we cant blame either canidate, they wont be able to just jump in and fix a problem that soon, that was started with Bush.  Both have the right outlook but the question is who will FOLLOW THROUGH WITH THEIR PLANS AND PROMISES!   (SMILE)

i dont think obama's tax situation is any better.  and as far as the money coming from somewhere, we are getting into a bigger and bigger hole.  right now we are in the 40% tax bracket.  can you seriously tax someone at 50-60-75%???? is that really realistic that over half your income is tax?  no, there has to be a line in the sand somewhere and we have reached it.

The money has to come from someone or somewhere so if they don't tax us, they will tax corporations or small businesses, which in turn comes back to us anyway via higher consumer goods prices. I prefer to choose my purchases versus having a government tax me more just because i have worked hard and have a higher salary. I put in 8 years of college and graduate school and yes, I paid for school too so why should I be penalized now? I couldn't take the education tax credits because I made more than the income limit either.

My vote is for McCain. He is the one that doesn't toe the party line.

Just my opinion. I like Obama too but not for president at this time.

And you think McCain is a wise choice for that? He wants to tax our medical insurance for goodness sakes!  I am considered middle class working america I guess, we make over 6 digits..BUT McCain is for upperclass! NOT working class. My DH is Union so he is a big influence. Although we did say maybe we wont vote, that way we don't get the blame for either one of them! LOL LORD PLEASE HELP US ALL!

i can see your point, but i am not willing to sacrifice more of my income.  i get no services, so for me it's not worth it.  i have worked very hard to get myself a good income and i don't think it's fair that now that i have, nearly half of it goes to the government.

and don't worry, i wasn't offended.

I seriously didn't mean to offend you hun. I, too, am a taxpayer...not in the highest tax bracket, but by far not in the lowest either. I feel the stress and heartache about not getting to keep what we've earned too. However, my husband and I are both more concerned about how much that dollar that we have is actually worth. If this country is in financial trouble, so am I- regardless of how many thousands of my own dollars I have in the bank.
All I'm saying is that something drastic has to be done in order to make it better for everybody. We don't gain anything without sacrifice in this situation.

And I must say- this country has been out of control for years. That is not Obama's fault- he is simply trying to come up with a way to fix it.
