adolescent varicocoele and fertilty

My son aged 14 has been diagnosed with a moderate variciocoele. It was diagnosed because we went to the doctor as he was having intermittant pain.We saw a urologist and he has had an ultrasound scan which found a moderate variciocoele and normal sized testes for his age. A review in a year has been advised. My son continures to worry and says that he feels that the testes change in size. He has been made very concerned about his fertility in the future from internet searches. should he be concerned. Is  it OK to wait and review? If we do, could his testicle growth be affected? Has is been shown that varicocoele surgery can prevent  future fertility problems? Should this be considered? Should he avoid strenuous exercise to prevent the varicocole enlarging? He continues to worry about these issues. Do you have any answers? It is his future fertiltiy that worries him most.

my husband had 2 varicocele surgeries..they did say that it would be harder for him to have children...my cousin also had to have surgery for his as he was having difficulty conceiving. Depending on the situation I guess..my husband continues to have it come back however...this may be a problem with your son as well.

Unfortunately, I don't really have too many answers for you, but I do know that some men have surgery for varicocele to restore fertility. Have you tried posting this in the men's health forum, or the urology forum? There's also a urology expert forum at http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/113.

Take care!
