does anybody know if there are any side effects to Provera?

I had a miscarriage  on June 18 and a D and C on June 19th.  I still haven't gotten my period yet so I called my doctor today.  She told me that I should wait two more weeks and if I still haven't had it yet she will give me Provera.  Does anybody know if there are any side effects to Provera and why she would hesistate to give it to me?  Also how long does it take to get your period after you start taking it and how long do you have to take it?

Here is info from Medicinenet that includes side effects:

She may be hesitant because its just been 6 weeks, may want to wait a bit to see if your period comes naturally.  I waited just over 7 weeks post D&C to start the Provera.

Dose can be 10mg provera for 5-10 days (I took mine for 10).  You should have a period 3-7 days after the last provera dose, although many drs may want you to wait up to 14 days before doing further testing and/or trying the provera again.
