? about iui

by PBedazzle, Jun 28, 2007 12:00AM
I noticed that a few of you have your iui done 2 days after hcg trigger. My Dr. has me do the trigger the morning before the iui(about 24 hrs after). Do you think that is to soon?

Hi,
I just had my first IUI yesterday. I had the trigger shot the morning before (tuesday Morning). My docor is having me come in again today for another IUI. They told me this was standard.
Good Luck!

I would yes, becasuse twice I have had u/s done 32-33 hours after hcg trigger, and I hadn't  ovulated yet, but was just about to.  RE says you can tell because the edge of the follicle was jagged..  RE times my HCG trigger and IUI, 36 hours apart.  He has gotten me pg 2 out of 3 tries.  The one try that I didn't get pg, the follies were on the side that I don't have a fallopian tube so my chances were minimal.

I'm not saying it won't work at 24 hrs, but I think it is best to time it as close as possible to o time, and for me that was 36 hours.

Good luck to you.

I agree with Tanker Chic.  My RE had me take the HCG shot at 10 pm. I then come in at 9 am two days later (35 hours apart).  She says that you'll ovulate in 36-38 hours so they try to give me the IUI very close to ovulation.
I would say that 24 hours after HCG is OKAY IF they're giving you two IUI's..one at 24 hours the other at 48.  If just one I think that 48 is too early.  My RE said that washed sperm, unlike sperm that sits in your cervical mucus, only lives around 6-12 hours but can possibly live up to 24 hours.

I had my first IUI last month (it didn't work).  I had an ltrasound Monday which showed my follicles were ready; we were told to bd Monday night, take the trigger shot Tuesday night, and went in Wednesday and again Thursdy mornings for the inseminations.
Everyone's RE seems to do things a little differently, I don't understand.  At the time I actually thought they waited too long to give me the trigger (I had a positive opk on Monday), and that we missed our window.
This last month was out (dh traveling), but I will have my second IUI in a couple of weeks.

WOW RE's are all different. My RE has me come in the day before my trigger shot to get an u/s. They just make sure that everything looks good. The next day after my u/s I give myself the trigger shot (about 9pm) and then the very next morning (around 9am) I get the IUI done. They do recommend that we bd for the next 3 days.
It has been Weds I get u/s, Thurs trigger shot, and Fri IUI.

Thank you all for the responses! :) I wish my RE did the iui twice! I'll have to ask her about it on thursday.

I know you live in NY and so do I. I hope you don't mind me asking but who do you go too (RE)? I go to CNY fertility clinic in Latham and they are great. I went to them today and we were talking about possible ivf after my 4th failed IUI treatment (I'm only on failed IUI # 2) and they said that they have a grant out there and depending on your income they would pay for some of the IVF treatment. My last u/s before my last IUI I had 5 mature follicles and they did the IUI  too - they only had to tell me that having so may follicles before IUI could result in multipies.

Don't be worry, I think thats a gorrd stragedy, because they insemate the sperm before you ovulate, In that case when you ovulate the egg is receive by the sperm that are already waiting, because the sperm survive inside the vagina for more that three days. And the second insemination is made later in case that nothing happen in the first one. Just relax!!Practice some visualization, that you egg and the sperm are growing healthy, visualize you baby..this gonna bring you some peace.
