AKC, thank you SO MUCH! I'm so scared and nervous. I saw that you saw the heartbeat!!! I'm also glad to hear that your doctor said it was completely normal not to see anything but a sac at 5 weeks. My doctor's nurse wasn't quite as positive....she wasn't super negative, but wasn't super positive either.
So your first ultrasound had just a sac? Did you see it?
Yup, just a sac at my first u/s. The u/s tech at the time told me that it was totally normal because most of the time you don't even see a heartbeat until 6 or 7 weeks. I went back today only to see and hear the heartbeat...but it was tiny! It only measured 2mm in diameter. You could see the heartbeat because it's like a flashing light. I have to go back in another two weeks.
Thank you so much! I feel so encouraged! I haven't had any spotting, or cramping---other than just pulls and pinches here and there which I think are normal.
Definitely ok! The heart is not beating yet because it is still forming and the electrical impulse which causes the contraction which shows on the scan doesn't kick in till around week 6. The cells in your baby's body are multiplying at a huge rate; every single day brings enormous changes so don't worry yet. Even the most skilled u/s operator is dealing with tiny images at this stage so nothing is absolutely certain...but when you have your scan at 6 weeks you will see a little flutter on the screen where the heart is and THAT is hard to miss!
I had an ectopic in feb this yeaqr, and am now pregnant.
I am 5 weeks adn two days today, and am due for my scan on friday.
So should i hopefully if all is well expect a heartbeat?? or is it different in all cases, i am worried, until i see the baby in the right place and all is ok,.
I would say at 5 weeks it's probably 50/50, so don't freak out if you don't see a heartbeat yet. 5 wks/2days is most likely an estimate based on their charts, and you could be a week either way. They moved the due date on my daughter forward and back the entire pregnancy based on US results. So if you don't see a heartbeat yet, just relax and wait a little longer. I know how hard it is; I had a miscarriage before my daughter and I didn't get to see/hear her heartbeat until 14 weeks because of how my doctors preferred to schedule US's. You, may, however, see something and that would be wonderful! good luck :) Just remember to stay relaxed for your baby's sake.
I am worried just like you were....I went in to have my fist U/S today we thought I was 9 weeks. The U/S showed that I was 6 weeks and a couple days and they only saw a sac. I have been spotting/ bleeding so I am very concerned and think that i am misscarrying. They want to see me again in 6 days so I am hoping we will see some better results then.
