Hi everyone I will be starting Clomid next month and wanted to know how many of you ladies have been on and how many have you got pregnant on the first cycle. Alittle bit nervous about the whole thing but I know it will be alright. I really cant wait to get started on the whole thing. So any feedback and thoughts about Clomid would be appreciated. I took clomid but with no success.  My doc told me that probability of success is about 10% per cycle.  So, it's not a magic pill.  Simply, it ensures that you ovulate.  Most people who become pregnant with clomid do so during their first 3 cycles.  Also, your doc should explain on which cycle days to take clomid since that may depend on the reasons for clomid.  Good luck!!!!

I'm still waiting to find out if it worked for me this first round.

I was on 50mn days 3-7.  Then I took Estradiol (estrogen) days 8-12, and progesterone suppositories day 17 on.

I'm on CD 28 today.  I had a trigger shot on CD 15 and I'm not supposed to test until day 30.  But, I started testing to see when the trigger was out of my system (I'd get a negative test when the hcg from the trigger was gone).  But, I havent gotten a negative yet!

I dont know if it's still the shot or if it's early pregnancy, but I'll let you know as soon as I do!

I would start it...according to all the info. it doesn't increase your chances of m/c.  My friend took it and she is 20 weeks preg...her friend took it and is also 20 weeks preg.  I also know another woman who took it and has a 7 year old.  There are good stories out their don't worry.

I have no idea how clomid work, I will start my first clomid 50mg tomorrow 3 - 7 and start Estradiol 8-12 then inject novarel when my dr. find mature follicle.  hopefully this time work.

I read something that said 80% of women who take clomid will get pregnant while on it...but something like 50% of those will end in miscarriage.  I don't think the clomid increases your risk of miscarriage, I just think it's whatever is going on with your body.  I took prometrium for 7 days to start my period, and then I took the clomid days 5-9 of my cycle.  As soon as my period stopped I BD every other day.  I went for progesterone check on CD21.  They called and said that my progesterone level showed that I had definately ovulated.  I also used OPK's and I did the whole BBT thing.

Clomid does not increase your chances of a m/c.  It simply helps ovulation.  There is nothing scary about clomid; it's a very safe drug.  the only serious side-effect is possible ovarian cysts but if your doc monitors you it should not be a problem.

I did three rounds of clomid ranging from 50mg to 150 mg.  Unfortunately i was not successful on clomid but I did get all of the wonderful side effects.  Watch out for the hot flashes, headaches, and my personal favorites - the mood swings.  These side effects lasted alll cycle for me.  Also beware that many of the other side effects of clomid nausea, tender breasts, some cramping are also signs of early pregnancy.  Good luck and SSBD to you!

I started Clomid this past Saturday, started in day 5 of menses. But I'm also combining it with the Metformin 500mg, 3 * a day. I wish you luck! Me too! I know it can be very emotional, I tend to think about it all the time, and worry, but the truth is, you really need to focus, and get on with everyday activites. I tend to think about it, and get real upset, that gets you no where. I'm really praying that the Clomid works as well. Keep us up to date girl! ! ! !

Hello!

I took clomid, days 3-7, 50 mg, and got pregnant on round #2.  I had twins, one of which didn't develop, but the other baby did and now I have a beautiful 3.5 year old boy.

I think when people see miscarriages with clomid, it's because they are being watched so carefully that they find out they are pregnant much earlier than they normally would, so they are aware of miscarriages very early in the cycle that if ttc naturally without doctor intervention, they probably wouldn't know about. I would have never known about that twin if I hadn't been being scrutinized with an ultrasound probe every week from very early on!  Most pregnancies do result in miscarriage, naturally, so women going through fertility treatments just are more informed about when that happens.

Are you doing IUI in combination with clomid, or just clomid alone?

Hello, I am only going to use Clomid 50mg days 5-10 which is what my Dr informed me to do. Im really hoping I got pg last month and wont need to use the Clomid. We'll see what happens next week if AF doesnt show up I will do a HPT. My cycles are so long 33 to 36 days which sux!!!!!!!!!!

Ok ladies well AF showed up today and Im excited to be able to start the Clomid in a few days. Just found out a close friend is pg and I must admitt I was lil jealous but Im happy for her. I can thank one round of clomid 50 mg for my two year old.  Unfortunately havmnet had any luck w/ baby #2.  3 rounds of 50 mg were unsuccessful, to start 100 mg in a few days- I'm pretty worried about the side effects.  Hope that you get your pregnancy!

My best friend got pregnant on clomid, she took 50mg one month and fell preg the next month on 100mg. I must admit after desperation and waiting so long for referral I took a round of her clomid from day 2-6. So I'll let you know. My cycle is usually 36 days and i'm on CD10.

Hello!  I am also starting my second round of clomid 100mg this month, last month was 50mg.  I had 2 m/c in 2007 & they believe it was due to low levels of pregesterone so I'm taking clomid to help.  Is anyone else in the same boat?  I'm on D6 right now & taking on D5-9.  It didn't work last month so really hoping for the best this month.  If anyone is having the same issues, i would love to hear if it has worked for you or if you have any other feedback

I also took clomid 50mg last month and never ovulated, so the cycle was a bust and the doctor prescribed Provera again casue it could be some time before i get my period. He upped my dosage to 100mg and i'm on day 3 today of clomind.
I'm basically taking clomid cd 2-6 as the specialist wanted and then he will start monitoring me on CD 9. I'm also getting IUI done so hopefully tis would help but if I don't ovulate then this cycle would be a bust also. I'm crossing my fingers as well.

I got pregnant the 1st try on Clomid 6 years ago. I have PCOS, that was only found a few years ago. I have had several surgeries, including having my right ovary removed a few months ago. I have been trying to convince my husband to have another child and he finally agreed. I just finished my 1st round of Clomid on 2/10/08 and I'm very hopeful that it works the same as last time. I'm very nervous because I just don't know if I waited too long. I'm thinking happy thoughts and just going with it.

I also finished my first round last pill taken Jan 29.  I am now on the dreaded waiting period.  thursday seems so far away. I am due for blood test thursday did POAS this morning and BFN :( I just hope it was too early that's why I got that result.  I am thinking of testing again tomorrow AM Wednesday.

See, I'm a little miffed about the whole Clomid thing. While it induces ovulation, it thins out the lining of the uterus--hellooo miscarriage. So to me, what good is it to put us through that? I'm still waiting for my first round and will follow protocol but I think RE's need to find a better way than putting us at risk for heartache.

True, clomid can thin the lining, but not always to the level of not being able to support a healthy pregnancy.  My lining has never been really thin on it, though I've only taken 50 mg.

I had a wonderful experience with clomid and thanks to it, I have a beautiful little boy.  I think women who are getting pregnant on clomid might have a higher risk of miscarriage anyway, because of infertility issues, so that could be skewing things.  Also, a great deal of pregnancies end in miscarriage, and because we are going through infertility treatments, we are finding out we are pregnant WAY sooner than a normal person would.  A person who got pregnant naturally and who miscarries at 5 weeks or so might not even realize they were pregnant in the first place.

Personally, I'm glad I did the clomid my first time through and had my son, because the alternative is SOOOOOOOO expensive, and frankly, painful.  I had to move to injectibles and the financial and physical burden on top of the emotional one isn't something I want to repeat if I don't have to!

Hi.  I'm also on my 2nd cycle with Letrozole (also known by the brand name Femara).  Clomid didn't work for me, but I've heard and read a lot of good things about the Femara, so here's hoping it's the answer for us!  If you are interested, there is a separate post out there called "Femara Info" where there is a link to a really good resource about the drug related to infertility.  A bunch of us on Femara have been sharing some of our stories.  Good luck to you!!

Hi, I just wanted to say that i took clomid 50 and they worked for me, I now have a 7 year old girl and i did have twins who are now 4 years old and i am back on clomid because we would like to have a another boy, Those of you who are scared to try clomid DON'T be, They are a safe drug and i never had a problem with them. I didn't get pregnant as soon as i wanted, i got pregnant 1 year after clomid with my first and pregnant with my twins the first month.  try to relax and don't think about it(hard to do I know) you will get pregnant. Some of the material i have read suggests that taking clomid earlier, like on day 3 can help produce better egg quality (i.e.better follicles.)  .  I don't know about this but I'm putting it out there.  I am 35 and beginning to think it's the quality of my eggs that might be a problem...  I have a very light mensus, every month, and low progesterone so I think my ovulation is still there, just not "great quality" if you know what I mean.

I've used Clomid 4 times and four times i've fallen Pregnant,unfortunately i've had 3 miscarriages, it went like this: 1 loss then 1 gorgeous boy who is now 2 :) then this year 2 further miscarriages...i don't believe the miscarriages is caused by the Clomid, i think it happens for a good reason..really hard at the time though!!!

All four times it worked 1st time.  

In Scotland now they have stopped Clomid as after doing a survey they said it was a poor drug, NOBODY ASKED ME!! i think it's a magic drug.

Hi Doris, i think the best thing to do is buy some ovulation sticks and test at home after 10 days from your first day of menses. You can also go to your Gynae and ask for a bloodtest on day 21 of your cycle to see whether you ovulated or not.

Charting means keeping a written (or online) record of your temperature, it should be low right up until you ovulate, then spike up at ovulation, and if it stays up the whole rest of your cycle that's good, it means the progesterone is kicking in and could be pregnant.  Good Luck

P.S. Check your temp at the same time every morning before you get out of bed. It's more accurate and consistant that way.

It took my 5 months to get pregnant while on 50 mg of Clomid. I had always taken it days 5-9, in August I did days 3-7 and took evening primrose pills because clomid may decrease your cervical mucus, and this helps. I also bought a fertility monitor, and our timing was so off, now I know why it took so long. Unfortunatly I misscarried last week. The ovulation predictor kits really had my timing off, so I would recommend the fertility monitor but it is about 200 dollars. Worked for me the first time! Good luck to you.

I started Clomid 3 days ago. My Dr. did not wait for me to start. We checked my levels on day 23 and they were 0.4, seems that they want them to be 20 or greater. My Dr. said I did not ovulate and he didn't want to wait., so he started me on clomid on D24He says that I will ovulate 8 days after you start the clomid and we will check prog. levels on D21. I am worried that this will give me an old egg since I did not have a period. I have a 2 year old precious daughter at home and had no trouble at all the first time. This is all so frustrating and time consuming. Does anyone know if this will cause you to have an old egg? God Bless to all!!!!

Hey, just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. My Fertility specialist started me on Clomid after my miscarriage six weeks prior. I never had my period after my miscarriage either. He checked, said I hadn't ovulated and said to start my pills on October 3rd (CD3) so I can better keep up with my days CD7 being oct 7 etc. THere is no additional risk, if anything, you will have a more mature egg because its possible it was already growing! Thats good!! I'm 2dpo now and doing the wait game until the 21st when I get my blood test. I take baby tylenol every morning as well as pre-natal vitamins. I also took mucinex after my last pill until the day after ovulation. Good luck to you!

Thank you for the response. I am on CD12 today and i think that I ovulated yesterday or last night. I do ultrasounds for 5 doctors that have an OB-GYN practice so I have been keeping a regular check on my follicle size and it appears to have ruptured. They will recheck my progesterone levels again on the 21st of October so I hope to have a good outcome. Hopefully we both will be pregnant this month. Keep me posted and I will say a prayer for you. ok question. my husband and i have been off all forms of birth control for 2 years now and I have PCOS so i have never had a regular period. if  i am lucky i have it without medication once a year. we are about to start our first round of clomid with metformin and i was wondering if there was anyone out there in a similar position or has been before? i am just wondering what my chances look like. i have never been pregnant before, this is will be our first time.

Just an update. I just wanted to update and tell everyone that my levels were checked on day 21(Oct. 30), I also started my period on this day. So, neddless to say I did not ovulate correct with 50 mg of clomid. My doctor increased my dose to 100 mg and we will see how I ovulate this month. Keep the prayers going!!!!!!!!! I am so lost I jus started 2cd clomid cycle......only thing my doctors terrible he don’t speak good English so there’s 1 prob also he went out of town when I called him because i was spotting for 10 days and it looked weird brownish then bled for 3 days the spotting started on the day  i was to have AF for a visit.....he told me take a pregnancy test if neg then up the dosage and start it.......which is confusing bcuz I thought I had to have other test done......help!

I am about to start my second round of Clomid today - the stress of this all is really getting to me. I've started Clomiphene 50mg on cd5-9. It's my first round and I'm very scared because i'm new to the whole clomiphene and taking bbt and charting your ovulation cycle. I don't get that I don't know how to do it. I want to know if it's possible for me to be pregnant right now. I started Clomiphene on the 25th of this month (February).

I'm on CD12 and just finished my first round of Clomid 50mg on CD 5-9.  We started BD last night and I we will continue every other night for the next two weeks.  I'm not a very good charter or temperature taker and if we are not successful this round I will defiantly look into doing that.

Hello, i've got pcos, and have been on glucophage (slow release met) for 5 months but have not ovulated. I've been put on Norethisterone 3 times a day for ten days to induce a bleed. On days 2 - 6 of my bleed I have to take 100mg of Clomid (Clomifene) and on day 21 I have to have a blood test to detect ovulation etc. I've been given enough for 3 cycles, and have to carry on with the Glucophage as well, and should I be lucky and fall pregnant I have to carry on with the Gluco for 8 weeks and steadily wean off of them. Nervous, excited, scared, hopeful. Would really appreciate some correspondence. Good luck to all xxx

I've just started my 4th round of Clomid.  I'm am on 50 mg. I had two early miscarriages . One in November 2008 and the second one in Feb 2009.  My doctor said this is the last cycle of Clomind I can do. Not sure what the next step will be.  This time I'm taking Clomid days 3-7. The three previous months I took Clomid days 5-9. Hopefully this will make a difference.

I always used to be a regular cycle until I had a miscarriage in 2006 after that never was the same. If im lucky i'll have a period a few months a year. We never really tried again but decided to about a year ago, Im not gettin any younger. We tried the natural way but nothing. I really need some advice. My last period was in April so my dr decided to put me on the BC pill for the month of Aug. I started taking the pill on the 10th of Aug and missed (pills) day 15 and 17. I had a dr. appt on the 17 and that when she prescribed me Clomid 50mg. Since going to the dr. I have been having break thru bleeding which hasnt stopped, which is probably from missing the 2 pills (what dr says). At first it was light spotting, now its heavier with cramping and blood clots. Dr. told me when i got to the end of the pack that on day 3 of the placebo, to start the Clomid cycle 3-7. I guess my question is, if im still bleeding after taking the Clomid for the 5 days taking the Clomid, do I start the next pack of BC pills, or will I stop bleeding to be able to have sex? I have been on clomid for about 4 months now , with a mixture of different things with it . the dr put me on the pill for one month i had the breaktrough bleeding when i stopped taking it. he put me on provera and clomid that didn't make me ovulate and finially and month ago i had a blood test that detected  a high level of the ovulation. hormone  now just hoping for success. me and my husband had tried for 2 years on our own with no success .

I have PCOS also and have also been on Metformin for about 2 mo. now. I also did a cycle with Clomid and never did figure out when I ovulated. We had unprotected sex over that time pretty often anyway and now have missed my period for almost 3 mo. I have had many pg symptoms but am too scared to test as we've been trying for almost 3yrs. now. I tested once right away when I missed my first period and it was neg. but now am about to miss my 3rd period. Does Clomid and Metformin sometimes make you skip periods, or am I really possibly pg? I'm on clomid 100mg for the first month. I've lost 27 pounds through the medifast diet.it's September now and i started the diet in July so hopefully since I've lost weight I will ovulate. I go day 21 to get my blood taken..I really hope I ovulate. My husband's leaving for Afganstan in December so we only have 2 months to try..I pray it works quickly!

Hi there, I just stumbled across this forum and was encouraged by all the posts. It is great to hear others stories.
I am still getting used to all the abbreveations for everything so bear with me..
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 21, I am now 33 and was just married in Aug08.
My husband and I surprisingly got pregnant right away. and I mean surprisingly b/c I was under the impression with my PCOS that it would take a long time and the need of meds etc..... however after being soo excited with this little "miracle", I miscarried  and I am unsure of what week b/c we found out at our ultrasound that there was nothing there.... dissapointing to say the least.  I have only had one period since then.( April)  I started on metformin in June however it was a very low dosage 750mg... now as of August I am on 1500 mg a day. I have completed one round of clomid.. I just had to "choose" a day to start as I was not having a period . so I took it days 3-7... just wating now to go to check hormone levels to see if I ovulated..
My doctor said we will do two rounds at 50mg and if nothing happens we will increase.
I am really praying that this will be a positive experience.

Hi everyone! My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 13 months. I started my first round of clomid Aug. 29-Sept. 2 cd 3-7. I had hot flashes, pretty substantial cramps, and fatigue. I got a positive OPK Sept. 14 cd 19. I am now cd 30 and have been experiencing severe nausea, fatigue, cramps, breast tenderness, and mild irritability. We took HPT cd 28 which was early according to O date but tested due to symptoms and got BFN. I am very hopeful that this is our month but scared to get my hopes up since it could lead to disappointment. If AF does not come soon we will test again. Good Luck everyone!

29 yrs old TTC 3 1/2yrs- Started Clomid 50 mg Sept 17 on days 3-7 just got results for day 21 blood test and didn't ovulate. Doing 100 mg next cycle. My side effects were hot flashes, moodiness, breast tenderness, cramping, fatigue, nausea, and extreme hunger which lead to weight gain and I'm still feeling those side effects. Since so many of those side effects are symptoms of pregnancy it was very upsetting to find out I didn't ovulate and I'm not pregnant. Hoping for better results next cycle...

Everyone responds to Clomid differently. Is your doctor going to check your cd21 progesterone level to ensure that the 50mg worked for you? I did not respond at all to 50mg of Clomid and got pregnant on my 3rd round of Clomid 100mg with my daughter. So the most important thing is finding the dose that works best for you to ovulate.

Hi Misty,
My doctor advised me to use OPKs to check for ovulation that way you can be sure when you should do the deed. I also use a website called *********************** where you can input your BBT temperatures taken each morning before getting out of bed and it will also assist with predicting whether or not you ovulated. The problem with the BBT charting is it will not tell you in advance when you will ovulate...it will just let you know that you did ovulate. Each women ovulates differently...the norm used to be cycle day 14 but they have found now that not every woman is on that cycle. I ovulated on cycle day 17 this month and 19 last month. You can buy OPKs at most stores and they are found near the pregnancy tests. I personally like the Clearblue Easy OPK Tests since it take the guess work out of it....it either gives you an empty circle or a smiley face. Good luck!
