Anyone ever ovulate early which caused your period to come early? Im baffled!

by dainsey, Dec 06, 2008 10:27AM
My husband told me to call the doctor to ask...but better yet, I told him I'd ask the girls on medhellp :-)  Ok, so I always ovulate around CD16 and I have a 28-29 day cycle with a 11-12 day luteal phase.  This month I totally missed ovulation cause I ovulated on CD 14 and yes I had a 11 or 12 day luteal phase which made my period come on CD 25??????  What the heck?????  I never have that?  What could be wrong or could that just happen sometimes?

I think that things like this do just happen sometimes out of the blue.  Are you taking any new medications or anything?  Don't worry, our cycles tend to have a mind of their own sometimes!

That's very normal.  When you ovulate it can become earlier or later due to stress, hormone shifts, illness, a number of things.  But once you do ovulate your luteal phase should stay the same which it sounds like it did.  Perfectly healthy!  The only time you need to "worry" is you start ovulating very early in your cycle but don't have a descent (about 5 day) patch of cervical mucus prior to ovulation as this can cause it to be much harder to get pregnant since the sperm can't survive long without the mucus.

That's the great thing about knowing when you ovulate!  You don't have to be surprised with an unexpected period! Your just count your normal luteal phase and AF should show up then!

yeah, that is very possible.  Mine has been doing similar things ever since I had my son. Prior to that it was much more consistant.  I also noticed since having my son, my O is later in my cycle and my LP has gotten shorter.  Since having Jacob my O has been anywhere from cd 14 to cd 18.  Prior to Jacob it was always around cd12 or 13.

Sorry you missed it.
