Hello,
I was wondering who out here has had a lap done? How long do you have to wait TTC after the lap is done? Also - anyone had great success getting a BFP after the lap?
My doctor wants to do one, because i have "unexplained" infertilityInfertility Infertility - resources Primary infertility...have tried MONTHS of clomid, iui, bravelle, menopur, etc & still a BFN every month...even if I have 6 mature follies.
What do you guys think? I'm really nervous about it!!!
I had a lap done, it was after finding an endometrioma via ultrasound though... they went in found a TON of endo ( i never had any symptoms of it at all, and then the dr said i was one of the worst cases she had ever seen! : ( ) the surgery itself isn't bad at all... i was back up on my feet within 3 days and returned to a fairly physical job within 5 days.. i was supposed to O like 5 days after the lap, and was not ready to bd yet.. since they had basically removed most of my ovary and did chromotubation (something like an HSG under anesthesia) so i was too sore to bd until like 10 days or so afterwards, the dr said we were good to go as soon as i felt ok though! we got our BFP about 4 months or so after the lap! GOOD LUCK!!!!
I had a lap done as well and was back to normalNormal saline flush in about 4-5 days. I had unexplained infertilityInfertility Infertility - resources Primary infertility and no treatments worked for me for 2 years. It was really frustrating. My lap finally revealed the cause of infertility for us. Turns out clomid and IUI could not work for me given my problem. We had to do ivf. I am obviously glad I did the lap and I wish we did not waste time and resources on clomid and IUI's.
Best of luck to you!
Is there any other way to diagnose endo without doing a lap? I am EXTREMELY nervous about going under anesthesia & would rather try other options first...especially since I have no symptoms...
Helen72 - have you gotten a BFP since the Lap? And if so...how long did it take for you to conceive?
Sounds like as long as you are feeling up to it after a lap you can go on TTC within a month or so??
I had my lap done after 9 months of ttcing, clomid and an IUI. I did have some symptoms due to which my RE recommended a lap. I have pain in lower abdomen around ovulation. Plus I have lower abdomen and lower back pain on the first day of my period (though this kind of pain is quite common.) .
Unfortunately there is no other way to find if you have Endo but the surgery. But it is not bad at all and let me tell u, I am the biggest wuss when it comes to injections.. forget surgery.
RE found stage 2 Endo and removed 99% of it. They usually do the lap around cycle day 7 and it is recommended you dont try conceving that cycle.
You are in the hosp for 4-5 hours depending on how you recover from the anesthesia. I was back on my feet within 2 days.
We have tried 2 cycles on our own and one cycle of IUI but havent got the results yet. But at least we know our efforts arent going in vain like before the lap.... Let me know if you have more questions..
I had a lap done on June 11 because my HSG showed possibly a partial blockage in one tube. After IVF/ICSI that ended in a m/c after 6w4d, I switched REs and my new one wanted to do a lap so we could do IUIs. Well, we did our first round of IUI the very next round. Turns out my tubes were both clear! I was fine after the surgery and didn't even need the meds. I was up and walking around the next day (although I looked pg for about 5 days). DOn't worry, you'll do just fine.
My dr was looking for endo during my lap but found scar tissue. So, you never know what they can find during the lap.
Do not be afraid of anesthesia. You will not remember any part of the surgery. The worst part was getting iv.
Also, I was able to get back to ttc about 5 days after the lap but it did not work.
I got my bfp after ivf.
Best of luck to you!
