Blocked tubes and IVF

by julieboo, Jul 27, 2009 07:22AM
Hi.  I was told 5 years ago that I had blocked tubes (following a Lap and Dye investigation) and that due to toxin build up, in order to have IVF I would need to have my tubes removed first.  I find the thought of having them removed very distressing, and so final, even though I realise they are completely useless, but wondered if there are any alternatives like having them tied or tubal surgery first?  This is why I keep putting off IVF and now at 35, I realise I am fast running out of time.

I am not sure why you must have tube removal in order to do IVF... I known a lady who had both tubes blocked and the doctor still do the IVF.  Her twins now is 6 years old and she was 47 when IVF take place..

Think twice before you are planning to remove the tubes... I did have my left tube blocked and doctor went in there and flushed it... I got pregnant right away...

Good luck to you..

I found out in April this year that one of my tubes was completely blocked and not working.  The other one had pollups that my doctor was able to laser them off.  My doctor mentioned to me that he would only remove my tube if necesary. After the Lap he said he left the tube because it would not prevent me from having kids.  I just completed my first IVF cycle and today was my beta test.  I am awaiting results.  I recommend you go to another MD and get a second opinion.  The best of luck to you!!!

I completely understand your frustration It took me almost three years to go ahead and do it, but i was offered no other options so at 29 I'm going for it and pray that GOD makes this an easy and blessed journey as i pursue mommyhood. I wish and pray for the best in ALL of our favor. Keep me posted on your journey.

GOOD LUCK N BE BLESSED!
