He asked me if I was okay with quads and I told him to stop teasing me, and he said he wasn't teasing. I asked about reduction and apparently it's illegal in Indiana?! Pardon my acronym, but WTF?!? Does it make any sense at all that you can get an abortionAbortion Abortion - elective or therapeutic Abortion procedure Miscarriage if you decide having a baby is inconvenient, but you can't reduce quads or more to twins because it would be medically much safer for the mother and the babies?
So, now I'm freaking out because I figure my blood tests will come back ugly and he'll definitely halt the cycle, and if he doesn't, I might get pregnant with many babies and if I need to reduce, I'll have to travelTravel sickness to another state, and I'm guessing the cost is astronomical.
I hate it when doctors put you in such situation. I understand how dissapointing this could be. Do you ovulate on your own? Maybe you should just try naturally. It's a waste of good eggs and also so much money. It's like they don't think.
I guess you are doing an IUI.
Would your doctor switch to IVF?
in this way he could retrieve all the eggs and put back only 3.
I know a friend who went trough this and they changed her cycle to IVF .
Good luck!
Miky
I don't think I'd want to switch to IVF because there is about a $15,000 price difference! What I'm doing now is about $3000 a month. IVF is much more expensive, and my insurance doesn't cover any of it. :(
I do ovulate fine on my own, and respond like gangbusters to clomid. I just seem to be unable to get preggers without assistance. The last time I did clomid, IUI worked great. This time around (nearly 5 years later), clomid + IUI didn't work at all, so injectibles is my last option. I can't afford IVF unfortunately.
Hubby and I could try BD naturally even if the doc tells us to halt the cycle, but I'm not certain it will work since it never has in the past. Plus, the only reason I think the doc would halt IUI is risk of many multiples, so if hubby and I still went for it, we might be faced with that horrible decision of reduction.
:(
Still haven't heard back on my blood tests yet. *biting nails*
I am so sorry this happened to you! A cancellation would drive me out of my mind! I really feel for you. No reduction policy sounds very strange since it endangers the health of the mother and everyone else involved. I guess whoever came up with that policy wanted doctors to be carefull and not over-stimulate. I hope you can turn this cycle into ivf or something helpful rather than just cancelling. Don't those people understand that to us one month wait is an eternity?????
Doc called and left a message. Apparently the cycle isn't blown yet! He said to reduce from 100 IU of Follistim to 25 IU of Follistim just tonight and then come back in tomorrow for blood tests and another ultrasound.
I wonder what he's up to? 25 IU of Follistim is like... 2 droplets!
hope things go well...hmmm...if I were u, I'd travel for the reduction if you get pregnant with quads...at least u would have the babies and stop spending on cycles...and if dr didn't want to proceed..i'd bd on my own and take my chances...that's my 2 cents worth...best of luck to you
I haven't gone that route but i know that having to wait another cycle sucks. I was on three rounds of clomid and took a break this month. This is the time I would ovulate on clomid and I still haven't gotten a positive OPK. I don't even know if I will ovulate on my own so I may have to wait this cycle and then take the meds again and wait another month. hope your body deals with all those eggs naturally and you can go on to conceive this month
Well, it looks like the cycle isn't blown after all. Doc checked me again today and I will trigger tonight, and do IUI on Thurs.
I still have lots of follicles. I can't even list the sizes of all of them, but the largest is 18.3 and I have several hovering around 17.0 and a few at 15.0. There are a bunch at 11.0 and under so I am guessing those probably won't go.
My estrodial was 279 on Friday, and yesterday it was 1789. EEP! They checked it again today. The doc keeps asking me if I'm nauseated. Have any of you experienced nausea with high estrodial or multiple follicles? I'm not sick to my stomach, but one thing I've noticed is I've felt pretty lethargic the last two days, and I'm HOT! I feel like I'm running a fever.
That is so great to hear that you can precede with this cycle. Sometimes these dr have to put you through so much uneccessary **** it's unbelievable. I know exactly how you feel.
I used to take 33.5 dose of Follistim, and it really does feel like few drops.
As for nausea and stuff, I had that from Follistim, headaches too. I'm not that far off from you with Estrogen level mine was 1354 3 days before IUI. And my RE scared me to death that I'm at risk for OHSS. I'm sure you'll be fine.
Once again I'm so so glad that you can go ahead with the IUI. Good Luck.
I got my E2 back and it is now at 2778! The doc hasn't even mentioned OHSS, but he did say ovulation was going to hurt like hell. He is having me take only half of my HCG tonight because he says it will help with the cramps and hopefully less follicles will rupture. My progesterone is 1.6. I don't really know what that means.
My RE actually discussed fetal reduction on my first appt. It's a sad thing to think, and I have no idea how one can make such decision, but you're welcome to come to NY. I guess it's legal here.
