by Harmony588, Sep 26, 2008 05:50AM
I was just wondering for all you ladies that had done IVF how much you paid? i hear its extremely expensive, my husband and I finally got insurance which is united health care and it does cover infertility, we had been waiting for this so long it seems :( but anyway does anyone know how much it actually covers? and also with any medications? I am worried that we wont be able to do the procedure if we have to pay so much, thanks ladies! and good luck with you all *******

Every insurance company is different and it also depends on whether your RE participates. Have them send in a preauthorization so you will know in advance. My RE charge between 12000 and 15000 without medication costs.

My insurance covered 4 IVF cycles, meds and all. If they had not, the cost would have been in the $14,000 range, plus meds, each cycle. I think like feather2e said, each insurance company is different, and I think costs are different in different parts of the country.  Good luck.

It also depends on your company, because we also have United Healthcare, and we do not have any fertility coverage. I have not done IVF, but with meds, it will probably cost a minimum of $10,000 (depending on which meds you take, the amounts and for how long). I've been to two different REs, and I'm not sure if the costs are different, depending on whether or not it goes through insurance, but the costs they quoted me (without meds), were less than feather's and sarge's above. I think they both charge about $7,000. And then the meds would be $3,000 and up. Best of luck!

Yup, as the girls above said.. we also have it and it covers IUI but not IVF... it depends on what plan your company purchased of that health insurance.. without any assistance our IVF is going to be $8k, and if we have to do ICSI add on another $1500.(with meds and everything).. some places do this thing called shared risk.. it typically includes three IVF and its something like they help you pay for most of it if it doesn't work and if it does work then you pay them back or something like that?   GOOD LUCK!

My insurance only covers the office visits and the meds but does not cover the IVF cost.  It cost us about 8000 for the procedure.

check with your insurance
BUT if you can;t afford - how about trying embryo donation.  There are millions of preformed babies out there just waiting for two parents who will love, nurture, and want them

At less than 3000 a try - it is a win win situation

Good Luck
