Can oil kill sperm?

by jifnif, May 31, 2007 12:00AM
Hi.  I was just wondering if oil (not used as lube) but was probably present during sex can kill sperm?  I was giving my husband a massage because he had a backache and well, one thing lead to another.  I don't know what kind of oil but it is scented with some essential oils.  I have a son who is 9mths and we were going to start trying again in September but I would not be upset if it happened early.  In fact, I would be ecstatic!!!  My husband wanted to wait a few months just because.  I told him the chances of me being pregnant would be slim due to using that oil.  But I am not positive on that.  Any advice?  I am pretty sure I am in prime ovulation due to cm.  I haven't been tracking my temp or anything yet so I am not positive but it is right about that time.  I always hated the TWW!!!  ughhhh.

It's probably not good for them, but I doubt it could kill all of them either. My dr said to stay away from lubes w/scent or "warming" when ttc. It's not the oil, like mineral oil, but the other ingredients that are bad.

They don't really advise using oil when TTC.   Like Tina said it doesn't kill all of them, but it's not the best.  I beleive there is one type of oil that is ok, but I'm not sure what type so sorry.  But if you need a lubricant try preseed, it's suppose to be sperm friendly, but it's costly.   However, it does not replace cervical mucous.
