I just posted another question but what I forgot to add was...Can your regular gyno RX you Clomid or do you have to go to a different doctor?

Your regular gyno can prescribe Clomid, but I'm not sure if that is what you need to get pregnant.  It probably wouldn't hurt to try, but I would ask for a low dose if I were you.  It is also a good idea to be monitored while on clomid, ie, go for a progesterone check on day 21 to see if you ovulated.  And then if it doesn't work and you start your period, go back for a sonogram and make sure you did not develop any ovarian cysts.  I have taken clomid for 6 cycles, and I have had 3 cysts during that time.  Everytime I have a cyst I have to wait until it goes away to take the clomid again.  You don't want the cyst to get too big because they can rupture.  Anyway, not trying to scare you, just want to make you aware of things.  Clomid is usually a good thing to try after a year of no luck.  Anyway hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the advice. What do you think I would need if not clomid?

You can go to your reg gyno, but if your insurance will cover it, I HIGHLY recommend going to a fertility specialist.  They monitor your cycles much more closely, and their job is to get you preggo.  Sometimes you can waist a lot of time seeing your regular gyno.  A lot of times the gyno will just give you the script and expect the rest to take care of itself.  An RE will monitor your cycles with ultrasound and provide hcg triggers at the right time.  Sometimes a gyno will do that to, but not always..

best of luck to you.

I would just try the clomit for a short period of time. I was going to a GYN first, she just gave clomit without any sonogram or HCG shot. Every month i was hoping it would work but not such luck. Then i went to an RE and got pregnant within the second cycle of trying. Don't lose your time with a regular GYN but go to an Re

What does HCG mean? Do you think since im 20 the doctor will not help me? I just know it will take some time to get pregnant since I only have 3 periods a year. Thats really hard to catch on time.

If you only have a period 3 times a year, they should help you regardless of our age.  If they won't, I would see another doctor.

Sometimes even if you develop a mature follicle your body won't release it.  This is common when taking over 100 mg of clomid. The HCG will trigger your body to release the mature egg.  Or sometimes your body will release the egg on its own, but they will give you the hcg trigger shot to assist with timing of intercourse or other methods such as insemination.

They can also give you other meds to induce your period so you can start a fresh cycle.

Best of luck to you.

I went to the doctor today, She agreed Clomid would be a good choice for me but she wanted to take some blood first. They took my blood to make sure it is not anything seriouse since I am not having my periods reg. I go back in 3 weeks for the results and to get this started!!!
