Clomid and Metformin combo

by Zieg, May 07, 2009 02:13PM
I'm 29 and have been diagnosed with mild endo and pcos. I ovulate regularly and my DH is good to go. We've been ttc for a few years with no success. My doc feels that even though I'm ovulating, it's not a "good quality" ovulation so she is about to start me on a combo of metformin and clomid to increase my chances. Has anyone had any luck with this combo?  I'm looking for inspiration....thanks!

I am 30 and I also have PCOS and endometriosis. I do NOT ovulate at all. I have like one period a year on my own. I've been on the metformin for about a year (give or take) now and the fertility doctor put me on clomid at 50 mg for 5 days and then my husband had to give me a shot of Ovidrel. The result was two mature follicles ready to go. I had my first IUI on Monday and now I am on day 4 of the two week wait. Hoping that I'll get lucky and have success the first time out but not counting on it. But yes, the nurse said the metformin kept the "ring" around my ovaries away. There are no rings and it the medicine does help. The clomid gave me horrible side effects which the nurse said was something that many, many women do not experience so hopefully you won't have these. The fertility doctor said if this IUI doesn't work then the next cycle he will go to a different medicine. He said clomid is probably the best one to start off with but it just didn't get me all the way there so I had to have the Ovidrel shot.

Thanks for your input and warning about the clomid...hopefully I won't have the same side effects you did. I hope this first IUI works out for you! You never know!

I am on Metformin, Clomid, Ovidrel and had my IUI done 11 days ago and am waiting 5 more days to find out the results.  I was just curious how yours worked out.
