Cysts on the ovaries after injectables

by meggs523, Feb 20, 2008 04:18PM
So I just finished up my first cycle of Follistim (after trying clomid for 6 months) and was unsuccessful.  AF showed up on Monday.  :(  Today I went to the RE to get a ultrasound done to start the next cycle of injectables, but to my diappointment, discovered I now have several cysts on both ovaries.  The RE put me on birth control pills to give the cysts time to go away so that we can start the next cycle.  My question is has anyone else had this happen?  The doctor seemed to say that this was a very common side affect from the injectables.  I guess I also needed to hear some supportive words...it's been almost two years ttc and nothing ever seems to go right.  One road block after another and it's hard to keep the faith that it will eventually happen.

I actually had the same thing happen. The good news is it only took one cycle for the cysts to resolve themselves. I also know what you mean when you say nothing ever seems to go right.  It seems that for each "good" cycle we had, we then had to sit out a cycle or two, for a variety of reasons.  We decided we didn't have time to do all of that, and made the decision to go on to IVF, instead of giving IUI or injectables more of a chance.  I got pregnant on my second IVF which ended with a miscarriage.  I'm on my third IVF now, with beta scheduled for Monday.

Yes cysts are common on injectables.  I had a large cyst after IVF #1 (was on 300u of Follistim).  It took two months on bcps to go away.  It caused me to have to pospone IVF#2 so I was bummed.  I hear ya...nothing in this journey seems to go as planned.  Hang in there.

I also had a cyst which took 2 cycles on birth control pills to go away.  I know what you mean about road blocks but it will be all worth it in the end.

Keep the faith.

I didn't even have to do the injectibles to get them. I got them on Clomid, lol. Yep, way too common of a s/e. They do usually resolve themselves.

well after reading all of that...I'm kinda nervous. I was on clomid for the past 5 months and decided to take a month off before going to injectibles. Now I am kind of nervous to start for fear of cysts and having to postpone ttc. :(

many women get the cysts after follistim...they should disappear within about two weeks with bcp.

also many develop cysts with clomid.

good luck...
