Do I have to skip a month?

by pizzles, Aug 26, 2007 12:46AM
I have been ttc for 3 years now, the last 5 months on clomid (only). Ovulation confirmed by cd21 blood test, however no luck conceiving. My gyn has now referred me to an RE who wants to start me on IUI (finally!! yipee!!). Anyway, seeing as I was on clomid this month (am currently on cd23) he wants to wait till I get my period, then do a few blood tests just to check where my hormones are at while off clomid and not taking anything else. Does this mean that I have to wait for the following month to start the IUI? He told me to go for the blood tests in the first few days I get my period then call him 2 or 3 days later for the results, and he'll decide what action to take from there. I am assuming that by then it would be too late to start any sort of drug treatment in terms of getting the follicles ready for ovulation and IUI. Is this right? The thought of just 'wasting' a month (no clomid, nothing!!) is just about killing me!!

well i wodunt worry about it...i was on clomid for 4 months and one failed IUI i was suppost to start injections this cycle but before i could the doctor ran some blood work on me..and i found out that my prolactin levels are a bit elevated...so i had to skip this month was put on prolactin meds and hopefully i will be able to do injections next cycle..also my RE told me that clomid stays in ur system for 45 days after and a lot of womens do get preg. when they skip a month or take a break so just keep trying and dont stress..GL!

My RE does blood work and ultrasound on day 3 of my cycle, to make sure my hormones are where they are supposed to be, and to make sure I haven't developed cysts, etc.  I get the results the same day, and then start Clomid cd 5-9.  I get blood tests and ultrasound monitoring every other day until I'm ready to ovulate.  Then I get my trigger shot and go in on 2 consecutive days for IUI.  If your RE can get your test results quickly, and they are where they are supposed to be, you shouldn't have to skip a month.  Good luck

I agree with sarge.  I don't think you will be skipping a month unless something unusual turns up on your day 3 blood test.  Don't worry.  I think your doctor is doing the right thing.  If clomid has not worked after 5 cycles, I think it is best to get things checked out.  I'm sure it will be something simple, and you will get your BFP in no time.
