Does insurance cover HSG for infertility?

by KeyD, Sep 26, 2009 10:49PM
I had a HSG done 4 yrs ago (6 mo after an ectopic) (to ensure the patency of my undamaged tube) and my insurance covered all of it. (highmark bluecross) 4 months after that I got pregnant with DD. Now DH and I have been TTC for 20 months without any luck. I'm wondering if the HSG helped things along last time (I was told the test was normal except for no left tube r/t the ectopic damage) I see my obgyn in nov. Does anyone know if my insurance is likely to cover a repeat HSG? Or what the obgyn might suggest as the first treatment/diagnosis for infertilty.

Mine did.  I THINK MOST insurances will cover the diagnoses & treatment of infertility.  You probably will need to get a pre approval first, which only takes 3 days by law.
Good luck

My insurance will only cover one HSG in a lifetime.  And they cover no infertility treatment/tests--unless the Dr can code them as something different (like painful periods)

It depends on the insurance - mine won't pay for anything associated with fertility - they won't cover the HSG, shots, or anything.  I have PCOS - they cover the ultrasounds & labs because my dr codes it as working with irregular cycles.
