Failed Vasectomy Reversal

by pigsy, Aug 04, 2008 05:32AM
I had a vasectomy 6 years ago, and 4 months ago had a vasectomy reversal. The consultant was very hopeful after the operation, even though he could only join one of the tubes. I had a sperm analysis at 6 weeks and 10 weeks after my reversal operation, and both tests came back negative. My partner and I are very unhappy, and don't know what to do next.

We have searched the internet, and the more i read, the more it seems that it may be worth having a second reversal to see if this will work better than the 1st reversal. Is this feasible?

We have also heard that we could have a procedure that takes sperm from me, and using IVF treatment, is then used to inseminate my partner. Is there any advice you could give on this, in terms of where to look for the best advice, etc?

I know this an old post, but wanted to make a comment in case others are in the same boat. My husband had reversal surgery 4 years ago. We did one sperm analysis but it came back negative (this was several weeks after the surgery). We have been trying for the past 4 years to concieve and now we are looking into sperm aspiration/ICSI/IVF. We spoke briefly about another reversal but the chances of it being sucessful the 2nd time around is even less than the first time, which was still pretty low. We felt that our chances to concieve thru ivf were far better. I don't have any fertility issues and hopefully they can retrieve enough healthy sperm and get some quality embryos to implant. The cost is also very similar since we are self pay for the fertility treatments (because of the failed reversal). Alot of clinics offer a discount if you are a self pay so for us, it is worth it. We are very hopeful. All the best to anyone reading this  post!!

I know someone who had a successful ivf with a partner who had a vasectomy.  It is an expensive option though.
