First time Clomid User

by Arlotheslug, Apr 30, 2008 08:58AM
Hi
My husband and I have decided to try IUI (instead of IVF).  I have my first round ever of clomid coming up (to get a baseline).  I have RA and my husband has some motility issues. He is trying accupuncture and drug therapy.  What can I expect? - in terms of mood, weight gain, etc. . .

Thank you very much for any responses.

(sorry about the tag name - it is a reference to our fat cat)

OMG.. what an absolutely  awesome name!  Don't apologize for a thing.  We have a cat named Mimi who is a 20lber!
Ok, your post:  I tried Clomid for 4 months.. 3x last summer and 1x this Feb.  Everyone has different reactions to drugs, some poeple really don't notice anything at all.  Unnfortunately, I am not one of those people.  I had pretty much every side effect.. night sweats, bloating,  gained about 3-5lbs. each time I used it, severe crankiness and flet like my BB's were going to explode.   BUT, dont despair, my neighbor did not have one single side effect!
I ended up ovulating right on CD 14 every time, with one or two marure follicles, but I did notcie (and have seen similar posts) that AF arrived about 3 days late each round of Clomid.

Good Luck!  Hope it works for you!!!

Hot flashes are the most common s/e with everyone.  I got headaches along with hot flashes and that is it.  Some people gain a little weight.
Good luck.

The worst side effect for using clomid is uterus lining.  I was on clomid for 6 cycles and clomid did my lining really thin.  make sure talk to your doctor about this before take it.  It took me 6 cycles before i even say something to my doctor.  this cycle she switch to Femera. hopefully it helps the lining.

This is my 7th clomid cycle, my dose was uped this month to 200mg and today was the first time I have ever had side effects.  I feel lightheaded/dizy and am having hot flashes.  So far my side effects are not unbareable, just uncomfortable.

I forgot to mention, clomid does not thin my lining--It was at 9+ the last cycle.  But I have heard that it does.  Good luck to you.

This is my third time using Clomid (doubled this for this cycle and last cycle) and I have yet to have any side effects. I hope you don't have any side effects, it just makes this process a lot less frustrating.

I am on day 3 of Clomid for Cycle#2.

By the way, our cat Harvey weighs in at 18lbs and you should see the size of his paws! I swear, he has some Maine Coon cat in him.   He's our big teddy bear and we love him!

Good luck!

I just finished my 2nd cycle of Clomid yesterday.  The two side effects I'm noticing are hot flashes and night sweats and crankiness.  The crankiness I can deal with because I have PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder) and am cranky A LOT for two weeks up until my period....so, that I have learned to control.  The night sweats and hot flashes are killing me!!!

I found taking Clomid at night really helped with any side effects.  The first month I took it in the AM and had hot flashes.
I did Clomid for four cycles....that is the maximum my RE would do due to possibility of thinning the lining.
I moved on to injectables with IUI.  The third cycle worked for me.

Clomid and IUI works for a lot of people!  Good luck to you!!!!!!

To: Thank you
I am sorry I have been a bit out of comission.  We are looking for our next test on next Tues.  Hopefully, the eggs are a coming!  I appreciate the support (and comments re: the fat cat - will try and post a picture later).  It is hard and exciting.  I find it really hard to be happy, excited, cautious, protective and optomistic at the same time.  This processs is very tiring.  We originally were told we had no options except IVF - I could not bring myself to do it for many reasons.  I think the biggest one was that I did not want to be dissappointed again after going through that difficult process.  So we started the road towards adoption . . . still working that road (and if one more person says as soon as you adopt you will get pregnant! . . . ).  Found out that IUI is now an option.  Trying to be calm - grabbed the Tao of Fertility over the weekend - and optomistic, but it is hard.

Anyway, this is a long-wided way of saying Thank you.
