HCG Shot too early, cancel cycle?

by lilmama09, Sep 10, 2009 12:46AM
Is it possible for the HCG shot to work even if done wayy before I would naturally O?

I'm kind of worried.. My dominant follicle was only 18.5mm when my RE told me to do the hcg trigger that night (tues).  So I did it - and I go in for my IUI Thursday morning.  The thing is I don't think the shot took, Like at all.  I did it right but usually in the past (with clomid) I've had strong O pains and I knew I was o'ing b/c I felt it.. With this I feel absolutely nothing, AND my natural Ovulation doesn't happen until cd 16, I did the trigger cd 12, So very early for me.. This whole thing feels so rushed.  I feel so dumb for listening to her,  I had plenty more follicles at 16-17 right behind the big one, I should have waited until my natural surge..  So I don't think I will ovulate anytime soon - my cm isn't right yet, and I just took a HPT 24hours after the HCG shot, faint faint positive,  So either I metabolized the entire shot already, or it didn't even absorb.   Will the HcG work even if my body isn't ready for it??  I go in for my IUI tomorrow morning but would it be smarter to just call and reschedule 2 days from now??  HELP!!

You are going to be fine! Your follicle size sounds good! The HCG trigger shot will work, but you have to give it time... It takes 36-40hours AFTER taking it for you to O! That's why your IUI isn't till Thur.... You wouldn't want to O today and have IUI tomorrow!! And another thing to think about is that your follies grow 1-3mm a day so your 18mm will be over 20 and the 16-17mm ones will also be 19-20 which is considered mature...and with the trigger shot ALL the mature eggs will release!!!! With your natural surge, only one will release!

Give your doc some credit, I'm sure she/he knows she/he is doing :-)

I wish you the best of luck & lots of baby dust!!!

Thanks, reading that helped!.. I had the IUI this morning and I know I still haven't O'd so I'm just hoping those swimmers hold on! Do you think I still have a good chance of success if IUI was 36 hours past trigger, but I don't actually ovulate til 48 hours after trigger?
