I am a 28 year old womanWomen's way. My husband and i have been trying to concieve ever since we got married which was 2 years ago. my sister had pcos and mom had diabetes so i thought i would test for pcos...i had been having irregular periods for the last few months...also it seemed like only spottingVaginal bleeding between periods and not an actual period..i had also gained 40 pounds in last 2 years...most likely due to stress, bad eating habbits and no exercise..
anyways the lab results came back and i was told that i have a high fsh of 24.3 (day 4 results).
My LHLh blood test Lh urine test (home test) was 34. I am totally devastated since the doctor told us that we may not be able to use my egg at all.
If any one has a success story, or a similar story... plz share.
I live in seattle and if anyone knows about doctors who would be willing to work with high fsh patients plz let me know.
There are ways to lower FSH and it does vary from month to month as well. I'd start with losing a little weight and walking. Then in a couple of months get retested. I have seen posters on ff drop FSH by 5-10 points. Herbal supplements can be helpful, too.
I know this is crazy old but if by chance you read this.. I will share my personal experience. I am only 30 years old and was told my fsh was 23.7 and I nearly fell off the chair I was sitting on. My doctor made me feel as though my chances of conceiving were slim if that. I was devastated. After the panic had passed and I settled down I decided to seek out the best of the best to give me advice. I saw a IVF specialist from Boston and he said he wasn't concered with me and gave me 6 months on my own of ttc.. What he explained to me was essentially when you are young a high fsh is not considered as big of deal as when you are older(even a score of 23). They look at it as an indication of low egg supply but the quality is still good which is most important! The specialist went on to explain that Obgyn mean well but sometimes they are just not educated enough about young gals with high fsh and what it means. He said most only know what it means in older gals. Although he was very comforting and took some of the worry away.. as they say the proofs in the pudding and just one month later poof I'm prego. Although I'm only 7 weeks along things are going great.
Whatever you do don't let a high fsh freak you out (especially when you are young!)
Good diet, excerise, accupuncture, and stress free living is all helpful in balancing your hormones!
I have several friends who have children who had high fsh in their 20's. It even happened naturally. I have it and am 40 so that is a big problem. You have young good eggs - just less of them. Don't be devastated- It may not be as easy for you as someone else your age but it will happen. When you are older you have to worry about birth defects and chromosomal problems that cause miscarriages but at your age your eggs are good so when you get pregnant you won't have deal with what most women with high fsh do. My doctor has a protocol that made me produce 7 mature eggs last go round after failing with 6 different drug cocktails. Don't worry about the high fsh - just be glad that you know that this will be a challenge and know that you will succeed. Be careful with herbs. I found a list once on line that told of how many of them cause uterine contractions. You will want to stay away from those. Things that wouldn't hurt while you are not pregnant could when you are.
I'm nervous to share this, but in the spirit of trying to stay positive I feel like I must. I am 41 years old and the mother of an 18 mo. old daughter who was conceived rather easily (2 months of trying - no fertility treatments...). We really wanted to have another child quickly but I was diagnosed with a kidney tumor and a radical nephrectomy (kidney removed) was performed. I'd always had regular periods before the surgery but found that they were inconsistent in cycle and days. After trying for 6 months I decided to try an ovulation predictor kit, while also making an appointment with an OB. I discovered that I wasn't ovulating (or I was missing my ovulation because it may have been coming late), at the same time that my OB got my FSH level back which turned out to be 25! Fortunately for me I wasn't educated on the said hormone so when the doctor winced and said he was sending me straight to the infertility doc I panicked and asked if I could try something called Clomid? "Clomid isn't going to do a thing with your FSH level so high at age 41," the doc says. "Well, could it hurt?" I say. "Well, I would want you to see a specialist first and if they decide this is a viable option for you then I'm sure they will prescribe. Besides, you would need to start this on day 5 of your cycle." I pushed on..."Actually, today is day 5 of my cycle! Could it hurt." He finally conceded and gave me a prescription which I filled immediately. I ovulated in the days following the regimen. Then our family went on a trip. I knew my chances were slim, but I wanted to have a blood test taken at my general practitioner's office the moment we returned on Wednesday to get a result before our initial meeting with the fertility specialist on Thursday morning so they cooperated. Wednesday came and (no kidding here folks...) right after she shared with me the gravity of my FSH level and age combination, saying that my chances were "remote," my cell phone rang. My general practitioner called to tell me that my blood test came back positive for pregnancy.
I have now done my research and understand what a miracle this is, but certainly one that can happen to someone else. I also know through my research that I have a high risk for miscarriage which terrifies me.
I usually don't spend time at sites, reading nor posting messages, but this experience I had yesterday is one I hope will bring hope to someone else facing these challenges. I know it doesn't always work, but sometimes we just need to take charge - nobody knows our bodies like we do.
Also you might want to try acupuncture.People say they work wonders with high FSH.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Good luck
