Hopeless beta numbers?

by hs221, Nov 23, 2007 01:24PM
I just got my beta results back.  They are 555 as of 11/23. My first beta was 157 on 11/16 14 days post  3 blastocyst transfers.  Second was 258 on 11/19 and third was 402 on 11/21.  My numbers were low to begin with but really seem to be slowing now.  Is there any hope at all or do I really just need to to an ultrasound to confirm a miscarriage?  Why would my numbers be still be going up if this won't be a viable pregnancy?  I need some help with these questions!!!!!

I'm sorry that I don't really have an answer.  My numbers never made it above 48.  Has your dr. said that the numbers don't look good?  You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!  But, I personally don't think the numbers would be that high and still going up if it were a miscarriage.

Doctor has said the numbers are not where he wants them to be, especially after transferring 3 blasts.  He says not to give up and that an ultrasound will tell the tale, but he won't give me the ultrasound until my levels get higher.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you for responding to my post.

It is my understanding that they will not be able to see anything on the u/s until your numbers are over 1000.  And sometimes not until they are closer to 2000.

The numbers are still going up so there is still some hope.  Take care.  Sorry this has to be so hard.

Thak you for your post.  Do you know why you can't see anything before 1000?

I don't know for sure, but maybe the HCG number is in direct correlation with development.  So maybe before hcg 1000-2000 there isn't anything big enough to be seen on the u/s.  Not completely sure tho.

But there has been many situations on here about slow rising hcg that turned out okay.  Sometimes also maybe initially more than on of the embryos implanted but one of them is not surviving.  That could also account for the number rising slowly.  The viable embryo is still developing the other is not.

Take care, Hannah

Our numbers look similar. My beta was 136 at 14 dpt. Two days later they went up to 267. I only had them taken twice. Two weeks later (one month past transfer) I had an ultrasound and saw the heartbeat. I'm now almost 9 weeks and we got to hear the heartbeat on Tuesday. I don't know what my numbers went up to because I only had them tested twice. However, your first two results don't sound low to me. Best of luck to you!

I've heard ladies on the site who numbers were some what similar have a healthy pregnancy.  On the other hand I"ve heard ladies here whose numbers rose slower due to being pregnant with twins and losing only one.  I pray you will be fine.  Blessings to you...keep us updated.

beta number for today is 1,103.  The nurse said this level was low since I am 6wks 1d pregnant.  My levels are going up but not doubling and moving very slowly.  There is talk that it may be ectopic. I am finally getting an ultraound on Wednesday to get some answers, I hope.

I've got my fingers crossed for you... it's really hard not knowing the answers.  I've been there and it's so hard.

I'm hoping the very best for you on Wednesday.  Good luck!
