IUI and no meds?

by jen_KE, Jan 24, 2007 12:00AM
Well, my doctor finally thinks he's found the problem with why we can't get pregnant...I guess I have killer mucus.  I'm o'ing fine and everything else checked out, but when doing a postcoidal test, there was hardly any living sperm and my mucus itself was VERY thick and not hospitable.  So, we have scheduled an IUI for the next cycle.  However, since I seem to be Oing on my own fine, he doesn't have me on Clomid or anything.  I would imagine that's ok b/c it the mucus that's the problem, but has anyone else ever heard of an IUI without any meds beforehand??  I know he plans on giving me HCG injections the day of and a week later, and will have me on progesterone after, but nothing before...

I also ovulate fine on my own, yet the RE still put me on clomid to get better follicle(s) and so that he could control the ovulation which he did with an HCG shot.  We then did 2 IUI's.

I too Ovulate on my own, but my Dr had me take clomid for my IUIs to have me produce more/better follicles.  (I had the IUI for male factor infertility.) When I asked him if it was really necessary for me to take the clomid, he gave me some statistics about how the chances of success for each cycle is increased with clomid, even in people who ovulate on their own.  I don't know if this is true- I have done two rounds, and neither worked.  Good luck!

Thanks everyone.  I called my doctor just to double check about this - and the nurse is going to get back to me.  I guess if they keep me off Clomid, I'll live...but I did read that it increases the chance of conception.  I feel like I am my doctor's stalker for the amount that I call him! :)

I did 4 natural iui's w/out meds.  I too ovulate on my own and from what I've read and been told by my RE clomid is not good to take if you ovulate.  None of the iui's worked so I skipped clomid all together and am now on gonal f injections.  I'm on my 2nd cycle with an iui yesterday and an iui today at 3pm.  If you have hostile mucus do the natural iui it sounds like your doctor is sending you in the right direction:)
