IVF Cycle Postponed-Ovarian Cyst

by SDScientist, Jul 13, 2007 12:00AM
I went to the doctor this morning to get my "all clear" to start my meds tomorrow and I have an 3cm cyst on my left ovary.  So he postponed my cycle.  He said if af comes this weekend and it shrinks I can start meds on Monday.  If not I have to do another month of BC and then look at it again. I do not have high hopes it will shrink.  I had one natural cycle and one BC cycle (just stopped BC on 7/10) since the 1st IVF attempt failed so why would it all of a sudden shrink during this period?  Anyone else have this happen to them?  Did it shrink up in 3 days?  I am so upset right now.  I just hate going through this.

I have had cysts on my ovaries before and had them rupture during a cycle, which is not fun, so yes, I think it's possible for it to go down or pass.   I know that it sucks that you had to cancel your IVF cycle.  I hope that it shrinks and you are able to go ahead with IVF real soon.  Good luck to you. :)

I read that an ovarian cyst is just a follicle that didn't ovulate, "cured by doing nothing--awaiting a period during or after which it resolves with no help from anyone."   http://www.gynob.com/GBUg.htm You can read simple cysts of ovulation on this site.  Hope this helps:)

I had to skip a month of IUI (twice) because the cysts formed.  It is from all the meds.  I believe it sheds when you have a period.   Perhaps Monday, you will get better news.  I am so sorry that you got such $h@t!y news at the RE today!  You are in my thoughts and let us know what they say on Monday.  I know how upset you are feeling, but you want everything to be just right for your IVF procedure, but I know how it still bums you out!  I am so sorry!  We are all so anxious for a BFP!

Thanks for the support.  I know I need to let this clear up because I want to give DH and I the best chances for success.  I just can't stand the waiting.  I  want to do everything right now. I am too Type A. :)  But I have been waiting for a year a half to get a BFP so I guess another month isn't going to kill me.  Hopefully Monday brings better news. AF still isn't here. She better visit tonight.

hi, i am new too this website,
i too have had ovarian cyst problems, seems like my whole life. i too am awaiting to start ivf and know exactly how you feel. i was hopefully going to start but they found a 2.87 x 2.54 cyst on my rt. ovary. remeasuring on friday . just had surgery for endometrioma 3/16 on left ovary. pray it is not from endometriosis like the one on 3/16. those do not go away. the hemorrhagic cysts from ovulation can go away. hopefully good new for us both.

The doctor said mine was a left over follicle from the first IVF cycle.  I am getting it checked again this Friday.  Mine did shrink 1/2 cm just from getting my period so I am hoping this last two weeks of birth control has shrunk it up.  These cysts can be stubborn!!  I had ovarian cysts when I was younger, but I went on bc at age 16 and the cysts stopped.  I was waiting for them to come back when I stopped bc about a year and half ago to start trying to get pregnant, but they never did.

I unserstand what your going through.  I was due to start my ivf cycle tommarrow.  They found a cyst 2.3mm on  the outside of my left ovary.  They are waiting to look at my blood test for the levels to see if I can still go through with it.  What a big let down, as a finally thought I was going to start my first cycle.  Hang in there everyone.

I have a cyst 14mm on my left ovary. this is day 4. the dr may decide to start the ivf cycle. this is my 4th ivf. shoudl i wait till the cyst dies down?

do birth control pills shrink the size of the cyst or do they not let it grow?

I too suffer from ovarian cysts, during IVF cycle (approx 16cm).  My doctor however elected to postphone my IVF cycle one week, surgically drained the cyst and proceeded with the IVF cycle.  My doctor also said that there are new studies which indicate that cysts do not interfer with the IVF and some doctors are not ignoring them.  Hope this helps.
