IVF SURROGATE MOMMY !! Questions ...

by Surromum7, May 29, 2009 05:28PM
Hi Everyone ! I'm new to this site - but i LOVE IT aso far !!

I'm trying not to be a nervous wreck - but i had 2 ( Grade 1 ) embryos transplanted into me on Tuesday May 26th,09. My intended parent is a gay male and has invested ALOT of money into this - we did the entire procedure in the Czech Republic ( cheaper than Toronto ) . Anyway ....everything has gone perfectly except for one important thing - the nurse at the clinic by accident gave me a box of Estrogen INSTEAD of Progesterone - so i was TRIPLE taking estradiol before the transplant - my uterus wall was 21mm at the time of transplant ! The doctor and nurses said that everything will be ok !
My symptoms are major bloating ( i feel like a house) , urinating ALL the time , soooooo sleepy etc ....

I'm so nervous for the day of the blood test to come in 2 wks - what are my chances of being preggo ?

Healthy Eggs + Healthy Sperm + Healthy Uterus = good chances right ??

Thanks everyone - any bit of advice or your personal stories will make me feel soooo great right now !

Is it normal to feel so responsible for all this - i mean i would feel like it's all my fault if it doesnt work out ! ( This is his second attempt with IVF in Czech)

Wow, I can't believe they gave Estrogen instead of Progestesrone - that's strange.  The largest factor of success in IVF is egg quality - it usually determines the grade of the embryo.

Your other symptoms are probably from the progesterone which I'm sure you're taking. What day (i.e day three or five) did they do the transfer?  It is definitely not your fault if the cycle doesn't work - I wonder about the estrogen/progesterone mix-up though.  I hope you get a positive on your beta - SSBD, jen

Hi There , So sorry i did reply to you sooner - my step dad has been rushed to emarge with his lung illness - so life is hectic.

Anyway ....The 2 embryos were both GRADE 1 - which is awesome - and they were in the incubator for 5 days - so they developed nicely the embryologist said !

I still have alot of cramping in the early morning hours - and we will go for the pregnancy test next week. My blood tests for progesterone and estrogen last week came back normal !! So fingers crossed we have a little one or two growing in me down there !

It's very sad that the nurse in Czech gave me the wrong box by accident - but so far the only major issue i had from the overdose of estrogen was a VERY bloated gut !!

Take care and feel free to post me anytime :) xoxox

Hi Surromum - I'm praying for a BFP for your pregnancy test - don't you hate all of the bloating??  I think most of mine came from the progesterone - other than that, I had few symptoms - so few that I was convinced that I wasn't pregnant.  Luckily I was wrong ;-).

How was the clinic at Czech?  I'm so curious.  Did you have a good time?  Btw, it sounds like your embryos are great - I personally think that a day 5 transfer is preferrable to a day three one but it's definitely a matter of opinion.

Good luck on your beta test - SSBD!, jen

I think it's wonderful that you're being a surrogate!  It seems like it is a good sign that your levels were normal and the egg quality was excellent so I'm hoping you get your bfp.  Please let us know how it goes.

Can you tell me your experience in Czech?  I actually had been thinking of going there as well for their egg donor program but decided on a clinic in NY instead.  It looks beautiful there.

I just wanted to say that I think what you're doing is so wonderful.
Good luck to you... it sounds like things are as good as they could be and doesn't sound like the box mix-up has hurt your chances.
That said, you really shouldn't feel responsible if it doesn't work. There's only so much you can do and in this case it's to offer your uterus! But sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and it's no one's fault.
Again, I wish you the best.

To: all you kind lovely ladies !
Hey there Girls !!

Thank you all so much for your sweet words !! I'm SO sorry again for my late reply - my dad is in ICU waiting for a new set of lungs !

Anyway - Czech was fantastic - the Clinic was incredible ! The nurses walk around like tiny model barbies with perfect bodies  hahahaha. It's absolutely spotless and VERY high-tech. It's a very well-known clinic for IVF and people go there from alllll over the world ! The day of my transplant i was in the resting room with an American couple and an Italian couple ! It's also very cheap ( the entire thing cost my intended parent only 5,000 Canadian dollars) - Toronto is just way too expensive ! ( That included the egg retrieval , creating the embryos and transplant - the meds were even really cheap too)
The staff was VERY friendly and professional - spoken English was pretty good too !
I'm in the process of starting my own Agency to assist Asian women ( mainly Chinese as they love white babies and I speak fluent Mandarin) with IVF in Czech ! I can easily connect them from China to Europe ! Good idea ???

Anyway - I had the transplant on May 26th - i'm still having really bad cramping ! Not often but just really intense for like ten seconds - kind of like knife stabbing pain in my uterus! Did any of you experience this too ( i know cramping is supposed to be normal) ?
We will go for our blood test on wednesday !! So nervous but yet excited !! My friends keep saying "Just go buy a preg. test and do it urself at home" !! Ahhhhhh

Well - it's bedtime nite nite !

Can't wait to hear from you all soon :)

Wow!  That is awesome to be a surrogate mom.  Good for you?  If the intended parents are gay than did you have an egg donor or are they using your eggs?  How does this work?

Do you have children of your own?

I'm so sorry it didn't work.  But sometimes it just doesn't.  That said, I hope you get them to give you another try for free!!!  Good luck with the compensation.  I am a firm believer in demanding just dues.  I recently had a hideous experience with my health insurance company and everyone told me not to bother fighting it because it's just me against a well known international insurance company and I'd only come out of it all the poorer for my efforts. Well, not so, they compensated me very nicely thank-you-very-much.  Took some time and energy but was SO worth it.

by sharon7222, Jun 11, 2009 07:54AM
I know you and the intended parent must be devastated.  I'm sorry it didn't work out.  Hopefully, the clinic will reimburse you or let you try again for free.

by 40smama, Jun 11, 2009 08:16AM
I'm so sorry for your BFN - like the others say, even w/all perfect conditions, these things don't always work - usually the odds are like 48-70% depending on age & so forth.

Honestly, I don't know if the clinic will give you & receipient parents a free IVF cycle but it won't hurt to try - good luck to you and them - jen

To: people
the clinic has no choice in the matter - especially since we have law backing us up ! We will be fully compensated for everything - flight tickets , hotel , ivf and the list goes on !!

I am 30 yrs old with NO fertility issues - regardless of that we used perfect eggs and sperm and physically SAW the perfect 5 day old embryos on the monitor. It is 100% the nurses fault for giving me the wrong hormones 5 days b4 the transplant !! A large overdose is estrogen is very dangerous and caused me great discomfort and pain !! I will not let this go - noone out there has any idea of what me, my intended parent , my family / husband are going through right now ! my dreams are shattered - but i wont give up !!!
