I'm so confused and not sure what to think~has anyone ovulated and not had a clear thermal shift?

by willsmom, Apr 12, 2007 12:00AM
Ok, I had a +OPK last Sunday (CD12) and then had IUI on Monday.  I had been charting but had stopped this cycle since I took Clomid and was planning to have an ultrasound, hcg injection and IUI.  However, since I'd already gotten the +OPK, the RE didn't do an u/s or hcg since they assumed I'd be ovulating on Monday.  Out of curiosity, I took my temp Tuesday morning and it was still low and hasn't had a shift of 0.4 degrees or more since.  I called the RE's office b/c I didn't want to start the Prometrium as they directed if I hadn' O'd and the nurse said that I shouldn't be taking my temp and that the LH surge was a better predictor, which is opposite of what my regular ob/gyn had explained.  She said to go ahead and start the prometrium as directed.  I've kept using an OPK since Sunday and they have all been negative since with no line at all today.

Now, I'm just confused and curious to know if anyone ever got pg without having a thermal shift?  I just don't want to lose hope so early on :(

Thanks so much in advance for your responses.

I'm sorry I don't have a story to relay.  But I would guess that your temp is probably not going to be as reliable if you had a procedure or meds.  I'd probably look on fertilityfriend and search charts of women who got pregnant with IUI and see if they had temp shifts.  Keep in mind that some women may take a few days to get a temp shift after O.

Good luck!!

My RE has me do my bbt every month to confirm things went as he expected them to.  If you have only taken one temp, I would advise to take more.  It is more about the trend than randome temp here and there.  Best of luck to you.

Yeah, you temp starts to rise after O, it can take a few days..I believe it's caused by the progesterone, estrogen mix that the Corpus Luteum starts to secrete. Remeber stress can delay O..so try not to think of it too much.

Ok, temps are still going up BUT I'm afraid it's because of the progesterone I started taking.  I quit temping from about CD4 until CD14 (1 dpiui) so I guess I really don't have a history to see if there was a thermal shift.  However, on previous Clomid cycles, my temps were much higher than they are now post ovulation.  So who knows!!!  I'm going to have my progesterone checked on Monday but I'm afraid the progesterone will screw that up, too.

If anyone wants to take a peek at my chart, it's on fertilityfriend
