Infertile or just not the right time

by Alek09, Jan 01, 2009 08:13PM
Hello All, First I would like to say good luck to all whom have been trying. I know this part of life can be really stressful. My husband and I have been together for almost 13 years now. Even though we have not been trying from the beginning of the relationship, we are now for about 4 years and has had no luck. I have Hyperthyroidism but my DR has told me that it is under control. I have never been pregant before, I eat correctly and I am at my correct weight for my height. I've expressed concern to my GYNO but he has told me that I am fine and I am not prepared to start IVF treatments to be unsuccessful for the cost. I would like to know if someone has any ideas that could be helpful to us besides TEA. It makes me sick. Please help. We are ready. I am so tired of hoping every month and then AF shows up instead of my Angel. Please help. Any ideas will be welcomed.

**Hope everyone had a wonderful New Years**

You could seek instruction in fertility awareness or natural family planning. Look for someone who teaches a sympto-thermal method meaning you would be charting both waking temperature as well as cervical mucus and optional cervical position.  The info you get from a couple months of that should show if there are any red flags in those areas and if there are, most are easy to fix.  What I mean is if you don't have the right type or amount of cervical mucus or if your temps aren't shifting up when the cm is going away, you may not be ovulating or you may have weak hormone shifts etc.  Most teachers can also get you info on how your hyperthyroidism may affect what you are seeing.  I wouldn't take a face value that it's not a problem as it may not be but it's good to keep in mind just in case.  You can also learn about these charting methods online, but it may be a bit harder to know if you are doing it correctly or not when compared to having an actual instructor.  Most hospitals will know of teachers in your area or you can look online.  Just a thought as charting can tell your doctors things that they would never know unless you came in everyday of the month for a hormone check etc.  It can give great clues into what may be going on. A doctor trained in NaPro technology might be of specific help. Good luck to you!

That was really great advice that you have given to me. It felt like someone really took time to care instead of saying it's not the right time. As for the tracking of the temperature, did you mean to purchase the ovulation kit? Or is there another way? I will be sure to look into a NaPro technology.

Thanks again for your help.

I think a lot of women on here do use ovulation testing kits, however I have not.  You can track your waking temp to determine ovulation. This works best if you are at least aware of if your cervical mucus.  As you near your most fertile times your cervical mucus (CM) increases in quantity as well as quality.  Meaning it becomes very slippery and stretchy, and there is a greater then normal amount to it.  You can watch for this simply by paying attention when you wipe.  If it feels slippery like lotion and you feel like you need to wipe several times, that is the type of mucus you are looking for.  Your temp should shift to a higher range just after Ovulation.  This should coincide with a drying up of mucus.  Here is a link pretty much describing what I would have told you on how to take your temp.  Searches you could to would be BBT or Basal Body Temperature and Ovulation or Cervical Mucus and Ovulation.

Good luck!! And feel free to let me know if you have any more questions!
